Why hire a fractional data engineer/data analyst? - Flexibility - Reduced risk - Access to expertise and a broader network Flexibility: You can scale the engagement depending on your business needs. You can hire fractional data people both for short-term and long-term projects. Great for businesses with fluctuating workloads. Reduced risk: With a fractional data engineer, you won't have to deal with financial overhead like benefits and other expenses. You won't need a rigid hiring process or longer-term commitments. Skill mismatch may be avoided as well. Access to expertise and a broader network: You don't have to train a full-time employee for months before they start providing you value. A fractional data engineer will be ready to dive into helping your business from day 1. Also, they most likely have their own network of other consultants. You may be able to expand your network through theirs and get appropriate resources and expertise for your projects. Have you hired a fractional data person? If so, what was your experience like? #independentconsulting #dataanalytics #dataengineering

In very exciting news, I'm hiring the City & County of SF's 4th Chief Data Officer. This role leads the DataSF team (6 engineers, data scientists, & program folks), the SF open data program, & citywide data sharing & practice. https://lnkd.in/ggmj67Ve The CDO reports directly to me, & DataSF is part of our 48-person Digital & Data Services team in the City Administrator's office. We're a friendly & diverse team with people from many professional backgrounds. CAO is a general, but very forward-thinking office led by the excellent Carmen Chu (don't approach her about this please! just telling you I love working for her). It's a great place to form partnerships, & DataSF works with many permitting, safety, & critical services departments as well as the Dept of Technology, Controller's Office, & Mayor's Office of Innovation. Couple things you should know: - this is a hybrid job that requires one day per week in-office in downtown SF. Sorry we can’t do remote, but it’s for a pretty cool reason - SF deputizes all City employees as disaster service workers in case of an earthquake/etc. So you need to be near. - from the posting, you need to meet the minimum qualifications (5 years managing programs with data & 3 years managing professional staff) but you don’t need to meet all of the desired qualifications - though of course if you do, tell us! In applying for govt jobs, it’s worth taking a minute to make sure your resume & cover letter respond directly to the parts of the job description you meet. We don’t use AI reviews, but we do have non-technical HR folks. So please, spell out your management exp, for example. If you have broad data experience, some of it technical, policy chops, an informed perspective on AI & emerging tech, ability to present & influence at an exec level & are a great, caring manager & senior peer, we'd love to see your application!

“𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭, 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫?” Here’s what most recruiters can’t tell you: Building a data powerhouse all starts with the right team. But knowing who to hire in order to make this team a reality is often more challenging than it first seems… Conflicting priorities from senior management muddy the waters, recruiters are often limited by lack of data expertise, and differentiating between titles like ‘Data Analyst’, ‘Data Engineer’, ‘Data Scientist’, ‘Data Architect’ (the list goes on) can feel like navigating a maze. Whether you need the nuances of each role demystifying, or you know data roles inside out, but still can’t seem to achieve the right hiring outcome, we wrote this article to give you the help you need. Click the link in the comments below to find out where analysts and engineers overlap, where they differ, and what key factors you need to know to find the right fit for your data team.

Hi Friends, After 6+ years between Concho Resources and ConocoPhillips, I have decided to return to Dallas-Fort Worth to be closer to my family. Over the course of my time in Midland, I have learned a lot about where I want my career to go moving forward. I am truly passionate about data analytics and visualization, so applying these data skills to a Land function (or new industry entirely) would be perfect for my next role. On the side, I’ve been partnering with a career success coach to rediscover what I’m truly passionate about. After completing a course learning Python and several other Data Science tools combined with my 10+ years in a diverse array of Land roles, I believe my must haves for my next chapter are the following: What I love to do: -Combining data sources and producing visuals, telling a story through data -Learning new things - I am captivated by new technologies and what the AI space has in store for Energy and the Financial sector -Project based work that is less reactive to the short-burst, one off requests -Collaborating with a wide net of disciplines (internal and external to the company in question) towards a common goal What I’m looking for: -Industry: Energy or tangential field (real estate, finance, etc.) -Company Size: Ideally mid-size (not lots of offices across the country/world - I’m looking to collaborate with a more central team) -Learning & Development: I would prefer companies that offer training and courses for a variety of skills, encouraging opportunities for growth While I am most focused on finding the above work I love to do, I know it exists in different types of roles. The below list of titles and responsibilities is not exhaustive and serves to help narrow the parameters of my search: -Titles: Business Analyst, Technology Analyst, Data Analyst, Product Manager -Level: Mid to Senior Level - open to individual contributor or people management -Responsibilities: Creating visuals and presenting findings to management based on data research, driving towards making more informed decisions -Companies: Asset management firms, E&P companies, data-driven teams in need of Land skills What I’m NOT looking for: -Land broker roles -Lease Analyst / Division Order Analyst -Data entry work How you can help: I would really appreciate an introduction to anyone you know who is hiring for the skills and scenario I mentioned above. If you know someone at a company I am at the interview stage with, I would love for the chance to speak with that person to get a better understanding of what they are looking for. If you made it this far, thank you, and know this isn’t a one-sided offer. If there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know. In any case, if you are in the DFW area, I would love the chance to reconnect with you in the near future. Best Regards, Andrew
