As some of you know, I recently joined the Board of Directors for Project AnimalAid, a fantastic non-profit that is based out of Colorado, but supports wildlife organizations all over the world. In a nutshell, PAA’s mission is to collect veterinary equipment and supplies (new and used) that are no longer needed by the donors, and redistribute it to other non-profits that can desperately use it. Everything sent to our global network of partners is totally free to them, including the cost of shipment. I chose to volunteer my time to helping this non-profit organization for three main reasons: 1. The global reach - Project AnimalAid supports dozens of recipient organizations in 22 countries, and across the United States. 2. The shared support of other non-profits – each year, tons of veterinary supplies are shipped worldwide, free of charge to help save and care for animals of all types. 3. The environmental impact – these are tons of materials that now can be utilized by other partners in need, instead of being sent to local landfills. As you can imagine, the effort needed to collect, warehouse and ship supplies around the world costs money, and this is where we urgently need your support! At the close of each year there are two events to help non-profits that make an impact in our community and the world. GIVING TUESDAY, November 28th – Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It was created as a "global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world". Some of Our Honor’s most impactful work has been from uncovering what our officials are saying behind the scenes. Stories on a wide range of topics—from National Pork Board’s stifling of student activism to the silencing of the voices of scientists and veterinarians whose perspectives threaten industry profits—were only made possible by public records requests and Freedom of Information Act Requests. Some of these documents can be obtained for free, but some cost money. We have so far managed to be innovative with the few resources we have; we’ve already made the front page of The New York Times!
