Thanks Packaging Europe for sharing Emma Samson's latest article on how Reverse Logistics companies can gain advantage by embracing reusable transport packaging!🚛🚚🛻📦 It's time we all started viewing reusable packaging as a profitable new income stream and not just a burden. Get on board! Searious Business, in collaboration with the Reusable Packaging Association, recently conducted a market analysis on reusable transport packaging for large household appliances (LHA). The next phase involves forming an exclusive consortium of industry partners to pilot the development of a viable business model for reusable packaging, starting with dishwashers. This consortium will include multiple stakeholders along the value chain, as well as early-adopting customers, with a potential launch date of December 1st. For information on joining the consortium as a reverse logistics company (or anyone else in supply chain for that matter), please contact Lia Huybrechts - lia@seariousbusiness.com #reusablepackaging #transportpackaging #B2B #logistics #supplychain #reverselogistics #circulareconomy #sustainability https://lnkd.in/evjfWc78

Down to Zero Starting October 1st, 99 Speedmart joins 19 other retailers in a complete phase out of single use plastic bags. As mentioned by the minister, this would work out to a reduction of 200 million plastic bags from circulation a year. On this point, we have rolled out our bag for life since last year. Since then, customers who have their bags torn have replaced them free of charge at our counters. The RM2 cost of the bags acts more like a deposit than a cost to the customer. With us signing up, this means that our operations in EM begins their participation in this program. Much more to go for packaging, but KPKT’s solid waste roadmap serves as a guide to improve recyclability and a step further towards EPR introduction. Going lower with Carbon, Growing further with the planet 💪🏻 #retail #sustainability

BYO for eggs. BRING YOUR EGG CARTON. When it comes to sustainability, retailers can lead by example. This German chain has replaced single-use packaging with a reusable option. Customers can buy a plastic carton for 1.99 euros that fits up to ten organic eggs. The reuse system is used in 280 of its 670 stores. Goodbye cartons made of pulp paper, polystyrene foam or single-use plastic! This approach has created a new normal for "egg-shopping". Customers are waiting for companies and retailers to reduce waste and "clean up" after themselves. Sustainable innovations are needed and will go a long way! Learn more about our low-impact, 100% recycled POS solution, as a way to reduce waste and lead the market of sustainable retail. displaycrate.com/ #displayCRATE #sustainableretail #sustainablePOS Coles Group Woolworths Supermarkets source: https://lnkd.in/gwj6q9mM

What Goes Around, Comes Around – reusable packaging and its benefits (and costs) for retailers ♻️ 🎉 I am thrilled to announce the publication of our latest paper “Returnable packaging systems and store operations: Processes, costs, and benefits” in collaboration with Christina Holweg, Gerald Reiner and Christoph Teller in the prestigious Journal of Industrial Ecology! 🔎 This study scrutinizes the distribution and return processes, along with the associated factors influencing costs and benefits of employing returnable packaging systems in retail stores. Employing the actor-network theory and drawing on interviews with store managers, along with on-site observations, a research model is developed to organize the fundamental processes of returnable packaging systems (RPS) and their associated input and output factors. 💡 The subsequent application of system dynamics modeling reveals that (1) customers’ process satisfaction, (2) price elasticity of demand, and (3) time between repeat purchases emerge as critical variables influencing the attractiveness and performance of RPS. ❗️From a managerial perspective, these insights empower retailers to make informed decisions regarding efficient operations associated with RPS, considering the influencing factors. Additionally, this research holds policy implications, as it presents arguments supporting the commercial benefits of RPS for retailers beyond the commonly emphasized cost perspectives. 📄 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dxtgPAz2 A big thank you to the Journal of Industrial Ecology for providing a platform to share our findings and especially Wei–Qiang Chen who has been the editor managing review!

This is an interesting read. Did you know that 94% of this type of packaging cannot be recycled? Do you as a business or consumer separate, store, take it to the supermarket? Consumers are often unsure which supermarkets accept it and where the facilities are, once there. What happens to this packaging? If you have any answers, thoughts or can show me what you do with this type of packaging, please share in the comments 😁
