🚨 Big news for the LHA (Large Household Appliances) sector: reusable transport packaging is set to transform the game! Here’s why you need to pay attention: 1️⃣ 𝐔𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: The #PPWR requires 100% reusable transport packaging within the same member state or company by 2026, and a 40% overall reuse target by 2030. 2️⃣ 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: A reusable system optimizes logistics, cuts waste, minimizes product damage and improves worker safety. 3️⃣ 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: Less single-use plastics (SUP), lower emissions, and improved efficiency. These findings are based on our market assessment (Phase 1) in collaboration with the Reusable Packaging Association. Now we’re moving into Phase 2: a consortium of key stakeholders to share costs, develop a business model, and launch a pilot for those committed to leading this change. 🌍 Embracing Strong Rules in the Plastic Game: A Win-Win for Business As businesses, we often view regulations as hurdles—obstacles that slow us down or limit our freedom. But what if we told you that strong rules aren’t about holding you back? They’re the playbook that ensures the game continues, and in the case of plastics, they’re essential for a sustainable future. 🔍 Why a Treaty helps not hinders: 🫰Cost Reduction: Harmonizing regulations means less technical complexity, streamlined operations - resulting in lower compliance costs. 💡Innovation Catalyst: A legally-binding treaty encourages innovation. When we know the rules, we can focus on creative solutions. 💪Investment Confidence: Clarity breeds confidence. Businesses thrive when they can plan investments with certainty. 👷♀️Scaling Alternatives: A treaty encourages scaling up innovations—whether it’s reusable packaging, closed-loop systems, or smarter design. 🛣️Aligned Infrastructure: When everyone follows the same rules, we build a smoother, more efficient highway toward sustainability. 👩🏭Material Flows: A treaty helps us understand how plastics move through the system. By optimizing material flows, we reduce waste and enhance resource efficiency. 🧑🤝🧑 Behavioural Shifts: Rules influence behaviour. When we collectively commit to reducing plastic waste, it becomes second nature. Businesses play a pivotal role in shaping consumer habits. As we rapidly approach the fifth and last planned round of negotiations (INC-5) in November in Busan, Republic of Korea, the +240 members and endorsers of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty are calling for a legally binding treaty. We share an ambition to work towards a circular economy in which plastic never becomes pollution, and the value of products and materials is retained in the economy. As businesses, we’re not just players; we’re team captains. Let’s lead by example, showing that rules enable progress, not hinder it. 🙌 https://lnkd.in/dWNnJFEz #BusinessNeedsGlobalRules #PlasticsTreaty #INC5 #Biz4PlasticsTreaty

🎗️We are delighted to congratulate Zotefoams on the well-deserved Gold Award for Sustainability they received from the German Packaging Association at FACHPACK last week. 👏👏👏 The award recognises ReZorce®, the company’s disruptive mono-material barrier packaging range hitting supermarket shelves soon as an alternative to liquid packaging board cartons. Liquid paperboard is notoriously difficult to recycle and will attract higher costs for brand owners as extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes roll out in Europe and elsewhere. Obviously, we advocate for reusable packaging, but where it is not an option (yet) brand-owners must turn to alternative materials which can fit into today's recycling infrastructure. ReZorce is a fabulous example of the ground-breaking material innovation we need to enable a circular economy for plastics, and we're incredibly proud to support them to bring this to market. #Guatemala #EndPlasticPollution 🍃Promoting a circular economy for plastics and reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste is the main objective of the End Plastic Pollution International Collaborative (EPPIC), presented this week in Guatemala City. 📍The international public-private partnership, EPPIC, will be implemented in Central America, Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, through actions supported by the U.S. Department of State. ✅Through innovation, investments, policymaking, and business development solutions focused on preventing plastic pollution, EPPIC will be executed under the leadership of the hashtag #IUCN in partnership with The Ocean Foundation, Searious Business, and The Aspen Institute. In Guatemala, the national inception workshop featured the participation of the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Edwin Castellanos; the representative of the US Embassy in Guatemala, Jett Thomason; and the advisor to the Vice Office of Integration and Foreign Trade from the Ministry of Economy, Luis Guillermo Pineda. 🔗Find out the details by following the link: https://lnkd.in/gpKMfJSC #closetheplastictap #eppic_plastics #eppic_partners

Thanks Packaging Europe for sharing Emma Samson's latest article on how Reverse Logistics companies can gain advantage by embracing reusable transport packaging!🚛🚚🛻📦 It's time we all started viewing reusable packaging as a profitable new income stream and not just a burden. Get on board! Searious Business, in collaboration with the Reusable Packaging Association, recently conducted a market analysis on reusable transport packaging for large household appliances (LHA). The next phase involves forming an exclusive consortium of industry partners to pilot the development of a viable business model for reusable packaging, starting with dishwashers. This consortium will include multiple stakeholders along the value chain, as well as early-adopting customers, with a potential launch date of December 1st. For information on joining the consortium as a reverse logistics company (or anyone else in supply chain for that matter), please contact Lia Huybrechts - lia@seariousbusiness.com #reusablepackaging #transportpackaging #B2B #logistics #supplychain #reverselogistics #circulareconomy #sustainability https://lnkd.in/evjfWc78
