Major Disruption Ahead for US East Coast Ports 🚢 🚨 Brace yourselves! The shipping industry is on the verge of a big shake-up. Jeremy Nixon, CEO of Ocean Network Express, has sounded the alarm: "We're preparing now for the 30th of September when we expect that the terminals all along the East Coast will come to a stop." A labor contract impasse between the United States Maritime Exchange and the International Longshorement Association threatens to bring US East Coast ports to a halt. What does this mean for shipping lines & cargo owners? ▶️ Most customers have advanced their shipments. Smart move! ▶️ Some have diverted cargo to the West Coast to ensure delivery, accruing additional costs Nixon adds: "So, the vessels now on their way to the East Coast will have to sit and wait until this industrial disruption is resolved." What about alternative routes? 🚛 🇨🇦 🇲🇽 No luck there! Mexican and Canadian ports are at full capacity, and shipping by rail creates uncertainty around delivery times. Key takeaway? Prepare for the delays headed into the holiday season. Let's navigate these turbulent waters together! 🌊 🚢 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eWC7XBwm #ShippingIndustry #USPorts #Logistics #SupplyChain #MaritimeNews #MineHub

I am a growth-focused, goal-oriented Strategic Supply Chain Director, attaining organizational goals and full business potential through executive-level strategic direction and leadership.
The potential Canadian railway strike, set to begin on August 22, 2024, is poised to have significant impacts on U.S.-based supply chains. The strike could disrupt the transportation of a wide range of goods, particularly agricultural products, raw materials, and key imports like fertilizer, which heavily rely on Canadian rail networks. Key impacts include: 1. Tighter Shipping Capacity and Increased Costs: U.S. supply chains are highly integrated with Canadian rail systems, particularly through the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Canadian National (CN) railways. A strike would likely force a shift to alternative transportation modes like trucking, which could strain capacity, lead to delays, and drive up shipping costs for businesses in the U.S. . 2. Broader Supply Chain Strain: Beyond agriculture, the strike could disrupt the flow of goods such as automobiles, petroleum products, and other critical materials. This could have ripple effects throughout North American supply chains, particularly if the strike coincides with or leads to delays at key ports like Vancouver, which could further exacerbate the situation . #supplychain #globalsupplychain

The possibility of a rail strike in Canada has cast a shadow over the logistics industry since it was postponed in May. Our VP of Global Supply Chain Paul Brashier spoke with Supply Chain Dive on how the shipping industry has prepared during the postponement. “The best operational plan to avoid these challenges is to terminate imports at the port of entry and use dray off, transload, and one-way trucking to get freight into DC networks,” Brashier said. “It is a very fluid situation and we continue to monitor daily until a resolution is reached.” Read the full article here: https://hubs.li/Q02HRbZV0 #supplychain #supplychainews #canada #rail #intermodal

The ongoing rail strike in Canada is yet another reminder of how fragile our supply chains can be. With significant disruptions in the movement of goods, businesses across North America are likely to feel the impact. This situation underscores the importance of having contingency plans and diversified supply chains. Relying too heavily on one mode of transportation or a single geographic route can lead to serious bottlenecks when disruptions occur.
