Feed no food? – TABLE summary published 🌍 In the PATHWAYS 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 storyline, ruminants would have a 100% forage diet while monogastric would be fed food waste and byproducts. Livestock would be reintroduced in arable lands previously used for feed production but could also provide land e.g. food production & reforestation. The feed-food competition is an important point of discussion when analysing the wider impact of the food system, what people should eat and what role livestock has in this system. 🐮 For a summary of our storylines, watch this video: https://lnkd.in/e-62WQh8 ✍ Make sure to check out this summary of the TABLE Explainer, which defines and discusses some of the key debates around this topic. 👇
Should the food we grow on land feed humans, or the animals that humans eat? The many angles of this debate include how feed-food competition presents in different contexts, how food security and environmental concerns feed into the conversation, and whether livestock on leftovers is an adequate solution to feed-food competition in these contexts. In this brand new explainer summary, feed-food competition serves a starting point for discussing inequality, sustainability, and wider impacts of our food system: https://lnkd.in/gEwtSQRY

As the global population continues to rise, so does the demand for food. And at our company, we recognize the critical need to adopt sustainable practices in Agriculture to ensure a healthy planet for future generations. Our poultry farm stands at the forefront of this movement - by use of efficient water management systems to minimize wastage, installation of energy-efficient lighting and heating systems, conversion of poultry waste into organic fertilizer, prioritizing the use of locally sourced, non-GMO feed to nourish our flock, partnering with local farmers and offtakers, hosting several community engagement programmes and generally maintaining a safe, healthy environment for our birds and workers. This is only the beginning... Join us on this journey towards a sustainable future. Together, we can make a significant impact on global food systems. #htsfarms #nigerianfarmers #foodsecurity #foodsustainability

On #InternationalDayofForests, let's remind policymakers of the damage caused by our current #foodsystems on our environment. Animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of global #deforestation and in turn habitat and biodiversity loss. The way we farm animals must change. Animals need better, higher welfare standards. People need healthier, more #sustainable diets to be more affordable and available. Finally, our planet needs a break from human's exploitation. One of the asks of our #VoteforAnimals campaign is related to our food system. We are calling on candidates to pledge to make food production better for us, animals and our planet, by fighting for sustainable food production. We want candidates to demand that the Common Agricultural Policy supports a #sustainable food production sector with high #animalwelfare at its heart. Additionally, we want them to fight for an EU policy that makes it easier to switch to more #plantbased diets. Join our call for a healthier, more sustainable food production: https://lnkd.in/d7G5izer

The EU grows nearly 2/3 of grain exclusively to feed farmed animals. Yet, most of this food gets lost in the conversion from feed to food for people. Every 100 calories of grain fed to animals results in only 27 calories of chicken for human consumption – and even less for pork and beef. If the EU ended its use of grain to feed factory farmed animals, they could take impactful steps to reduce food loss and feed more people. Call on EU leaders for a fair food & farming transition - sign the petition ➡ https://ciwf.end.it/sign/ #EndIt #FLWDay

We as agronomists, environmentalists, climate innovators and specialists recognise that sustainable and resilient food systems, coupled with climate-smart agriculture, are needed to ensure sustainable diets that are adequately diverse, nutritious, and better aligned with contextual ecosystem functions and environmental conservation. Many consequences of climate change undermine the stability of global food systems, decreasing food security and diet quality, and exposing vulnerable populations to multiple forms of malnutrition. CLIMATE CHANGE IS NOW A REALITY AND WE NEED TO ACT FAST!!
