Confirmation. I know myself and I haven't changed.
This was confirmed having conversations with a lot of different people of late about my next venture - being approached by randoms or non-randoms, reaching out to people and businesses I have come into contact with in my career and even people I had no idea were following (lurking haha) my journey since high school.
The confirmation was where my continued source of motivation is.
People know that I still have practice management software (Alli) that I built (that's currently just sitting there), and I still have Dietitian Life which I haven't posted on for some time, available for me to grow, build and improve but I haven't been motivated to.
The reason is because when I started those businesses they were fully and truly built around the impact they were going to have on my team. Alli was built to make the lives of the dietitians in Fuel Your Life (Dietitians) better. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fully integrate the company on the software before the sale of FYL. So now it sits there, built, collecting dust.
Dietitian Life was built to provide support and professional developement to dietitians, which included my team at FYL - and everyone else enjoying it and getting value was a welcomed side effect. I created a platform where private practice dietitians in particular felt supported, where they could go for answers, as I never felt that support from our governing body (or any other service). And still to this day we answer DMs and provide an online (free & paid) subscription service website, but the potential to do better there is huge.
Instead I am looking at how I can work with other businesses/entrepreneurs/humans achieve their goals. What can my skills, knowledge and experience do to help them.
I was never motivated to start my own business, only that I wanted people to be treated better than I was. I was never motivated by money. Never motivated to sell the company. And every single person who knows me will tell you that numbers were never discussed as a goal of any of it - it was about building something bigger to impact more people, and provide more opportunities.
So now, with no business of my own, I don't have a 'passion' area where I want to work in. I am just passionate about helping people achieve their goals. It is how I built FYL. It is what I invested in. And wherever or whatever work I do next it will be based around the impact I am having on the human/s I am helping in the process.
As ultruistic that may seem, those that know, know - IYKYK as they say. It isn't to say it is better or worse than anyone elses motivation - as many people are very motivated about money/valuations, and that's cool as long as it is authentic to you.
So the TLDR; I am motivated by nothing more than I am helping other people achieve their goals - as that is my goal. So now I am just talking to people that want me to use my skills to help them achieve their goals.
Keen.
