At Ecolab, we recognize the urgent need to reduce waste and enhance our environmental impact. Sunday is International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction. Read below for reminders on preventing, donating, diverting, and reducing. Together, our actions can create a ripple effect in the food industry, reducing waste and driving sustainability! What Can You Do Today to Make an Impact? 1. Prevent Waste: -Optimize your ordering and ensure proper portioning and labeling. -Track and analyze food waste to identify adjustments, share the data for impact and make immediate changes. 2. Donate: - Follow proper temperature controls for donated food during all stages up to pick up and drop off. - Cool, cold hold and potentially freeze cooked items properly to maintain safety during transport. For more insights on donations, check out the FDA Food Donation Guidelines: https://lnkd.in/gzcBAdvN 3. Divert: - Recycle and compost wherever possible. - Update SOPs to keep areas clean and pest-free as these areas could be pest attractions. 4. Reduce: - Fix leaks and drips to conserve water. Even the smallest faucet drip or pipe leak can waste water. - Be mindful of the extras such as condiments and cutlery in takeout orders. Follow regulatory requirements.

The Majority of HKG oils have been banned because they are made from very unstable oxidant & inflammatory fats.! They have been banned because the decompose into harmful food products very quickly! These harmful food products are responsible for the acceleration of NCDs like diverts, strokes, cardiovascular, cancer & chronic respiratory diseases. One in ten die or 32+M people worldwide and three in ten can suffer from a NCD. Hence a significant portion of the waste food needs to be composted or incorporated in a biological compost! There are 144+ governments around the world begging you to switch to monounsaturated oils as they have the very opposite antioxidant and anti-inflammatory chemistry! Every #caterer # every #listedcompany every #government kitchen #every #hospital, #School #QSR #kitchen feed the public including 🍆#HKJC, #FootballClub #cricket #tennis #Golf & #press enterprise must become responsible or pay for the #lives lost or #suffering! It does not cost a penny or a dollar to switch, save 30% & upto 70% if you are a QSR as well as more cost reductions on variable expenses (staff, power, cleaning, waste), fixed costs( insurance, storage, filtration, compliance, marketing), intangible (ESG, loyalty, shareholders, government relationships) and importantly- save lives! Please respond and ask everyone you meet - do you know much about the country’s request to SWITCH to healthier oils that have dramatically minimised heart and vascular diseases for 3,700 years in Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal! In our vision of a more sustainable food system, everyone has access to nutritious food and all food goes to its highest outcome. But that’s not yet reality in the U.S. One in seven people are food insecure in America, a stat that’s increased 30% in just the past year. At the same time, 33% of all food in the U.S.—78 million tons—went to waste or was lost in the fields in 2022 according to ReFED. It’s easy to get discouraged by those numbers, but we see it as an opportunity to tackle both problems at once—not just on #HungerActionDay but every day. We partner with more than 60 food banks and pantries and local food access organizations leading the work of serving and feeding our neighbors day in and day out. Over the past year, we’ve helped provide more than 1.5 million meals* to people facing hunger through our partnership with Feeding America. And in 2023, Misfits Market donated over 6 million pounds of food through our 60+ community partners around our facilities. To learn more about the amazing work of our partners and how you can fight hunger just by shopping with us, head to our new Food Access page: https://lnkd.in/eqvApez2 #HungerActionMonth *$1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

Something that I am incredibly passionate about - food waste. It always amazes me how much food is thrown away, when there are families in our own communities who are food scarce. Today is #WorldFoodDay - a time to remember the value of our food and to think of creative ways to reduce waste. Nearly 828 million people still go to bed hungry every night, while approximately 1/3 of all food produced globally is wasted. Reducing hunger and waste can start with simple actions: - Cut down food waste in households and businesses by planning meals, storing food properly, and repurposing leftovers. - Support sustainable farming and local producers to ensure long-term food security. - Donate excess food to local charities or food banks to help those in need. This picture was taken last weekend as our team of 6 at my church prepared food donated by Trader Joe's. Food that was going to be thrown away; and we used it to make meals to serve 150+ people in the devastated areas of Western NC. If we all work together, we can make a difference. #WorldFoodDay #ZeroHunger #Sustainability #FoodSecurity #FeedNC #DisasterRelief

Today is Stop Food Waste Day, which is the largest single day of action dedicated to preventing global food waste. Did you know that a quarter of the food wasted globally could feed the 795 million undernourished people across the globe? As an organization dedicated to facilitating food access for those experiencing hunger, Daily Bread is proud to collaborate with partners to help divert produce and food items that would otherwise end up in landfills. One of those partners is Metro Ontario through the One More Bite program. The program helps ensure that unsold food is recovered by more than 68 food banks across Ontario, providing over 2 million pounds of fresh and nutritious food to those facing hunger. As part of the program, Daily Bread partners with more than 20 stores across the GTA, who have helped save over 360,046 pounds of food. Food waste remains a huge challenge, but progress is happening! Since 2019, over 30% more retailed food has been rescued from landfills. Still, only 5% of food waste is donated annually, which means over 22 pounds of unsold food per person—or an astonishing 170 pounds for every food-insecure individual. At Eat Happy, we believe this food can—and should—make a difference. Our volunteers are already rescuing surplus food and delivering it to shelters and food banks, but we need businesses to join the fight, too! By partnering with us, local ethnic markets, grocery chains, distributors, and cafes can help transform unsold food into life-saving meals. Together, we can reduce waste, feed our communities, and create a brighter future. Thank you to the Pacific Coast Food Waste Collaborative for shedding light on these important stats. Let’s keep the momentum going! 💚 #StopFoodWaste #FoodRescue #EndHunger #EatHappyNow

Our data shows that 15-20% of food goes uneaten at events… …On global scale event up to 50%. 🤯 That’s like cooking for 10 people and throwing 2 plates straight into the bin. Food waste is a massive issue, especially in the events industry. Fortunately, in Estonia, we have the option to donate uneaten food to those in need. 👉🏼 In 2024 we donated 2 tonnes of food. 2 tonnes of food could feed approximately 800 people for one day. Recently, we spoke with our amazing partner Tarmo from FudLoop , an inspiring organization proving how small changes, like rescuing surplus food through circular economy principles, can create a huge impact. ❓ What happens to the food rescued by Fudloop? It’s simple: they get it into people's hands immediately. The demand is always high - whether it’s 2 AM or 9 AM, winter or summer. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻: 🚚 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Food is distributed as soon as it’s collected. 📍 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵: Currently active in Tallinn and Pärnu, and ready to step in anywhere in Estonia. 🙌🏽 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Every bite saved helps people in need and prevents food from ending up in the trash. 💡 Fudloop follows Estonia’s food safety regulations to ensure that everything shared is safe to eat. And yes, this kind of food-sharing is 100% legal when done right. Here’s the tough part: Many events still don’t consider food donation. As Tarmo explained, too much food is wasted that could have been saved. That’s why Fudloop is urging event organizers to take action. Have you ever rescued food or donated leftovers? Share your experience in the comments 💬 PS: Have leftover food after an event? Email: info@fudloop.ee. They’ll handle the packaging and logistics for you. For larger events, it’s best to let them know early, but they’re happy to help anytime. Photo: Rauno Liivand #sustainability #circulareconomy #fudloop #jolos
