Great advice here! Mentorship is one of the most powerful tools for growth, both professionally and personally. I have experienced that having multiple mentors with diverse perspectives allows you to approach challenges from various angles and uncover opportunities you might not have seen otherwise. A mentor isn’t just a guide—they’re a partner in your success, someone who inspires you to think bigger, push boundaries, and grow beyond your comfort zone. As we celebrate National Mentoring Month, take a moment to thank the mentors who’ve shaped us and reflect on how we can pay it forward! Who has been a mentor in your life, and what’s the best advice they’ve given you? Be sure to let them know!

January is National Mentoring Month, and we're proud to reshare this important message from ECMC Foundation, a leader in advancing mentorship, advising, and coaching to drive student success. At Hatcher, we believe that mentorship is more than just guidance—it's a strategic tool for empowering individuals, fostering innovation, and creating lasting impact across the sectors we serve. As organizations and institutions look to strengthen their support systems, investing in mentorship programs that are data-driven, equitable, and mission-aligned can be a game-changer for long-term outcomes. Let’s work together to build mentorship initiatives that not only support individuals but also drive systemic change. #MentoringMonth #LeadershipThroughMentorship #StrategicImpact

Our new toolkit for museum professionals: our Mentoring Toolkit, developed as part of the Going Places programme, offers guidance and resources for establishing effective mentoring relationships in the museum and cultural sectors. Our Mentoring Toolkit builds on insights from our Going Places Mentoring Programme Research Report. By sharing this resource, we hope to encourage other organisations to create their own mentoring programmes, amplifying the benefits of mentorship throughout the sector. 📥 Download the toolkit and read the research: https://bit.ly/4fd5Esi Researched and created by Mairead O’Rourke and Laura Crossley, in collaboration with Going Places participants and colleagues across the sector, and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

🚀 Reflections on a Powerful Discussion: UKAT Tutoring Matters Series Webinar 🚀 Yesterday I had the privilege of participating in the UKAT Tutoring Matters Series Webinar on "Mid-Level Practitioners in Academic Advising/Tutoring - How Sustainable Are Our Roles?" It was a fantastic global discussion with diverse perspectives from around the world. We addressed the evolving challenges in higher education, touching on questions such as: What inspired your career in higher education? How have you navigated the challenges your students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders face? How have enrollment challenges affected your institutions? How does assessment help your professional practice? How have you worked on your well-being? Key themes like burnout, financial pressures, enrollment shifts, and the importance of student support and well-being were central to the conversation. It was inspiring to hear how different institutions are responding and the shared commitment to student success. A recurring takeaway was the critical need for self-care. In my closing statement, I shared: "People are fantastic, but systems are not. Take the time to look after yourself and those around you as the system might not. " A huge thank you to all the participants and organisers for facilitating this open, honest, and much-needed discussion. Let’s keep working together to support both our students and ourselves.
Thank you to Susanna Ahteensuu, Colum Cronin, Heather Doyle, Dr Josephine Gabi, PhD, Yashira Groenendijk, Gugu Wendy Khanye, and Dave Lochtie for being such amazing panelists at today's UKAT Tutoring Matters Series Webinar: "Mid-Level Practitioners in Academic Advising/Tutoring - How Sustainable Are Our Roles?" I am so thankful to Wiona Porath for being a fantastic co-facilitator! We represented seven countries: Canada, Finland, Ireland, The Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each panelist shared their unique experiences, allowing for a fantastic global discussion. Thank you also to the participants who came out and shared your perspectives in the chat. Thank you to David Grey for the opportunity to present with this incredible team!
