Foróige’s Post

🟣 Last Thursday, young people from Foróige attended 'Acting with Empathy', a fantastic event co-hosted by the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre, University of Galway and their Patron, Irish actor Cillian Murphy, at the Stella Cinema in Rathmines, Dublin. 🟣 The evening included an exclusive screening of Cillian's film 'Small Things Like These', followed by a discussion with RTÉ’s John Kelly. Cillian reflected on his support of empathy-focused research at the UNESCO Centre in Galway and the importance of engaging young people in tackling social issues. 🟣 The event, held in association with Foróige and Penn State University, highlighted the Activating Social Empathy programme. This initiative, developed in partnership with Foróige, has been creating real impact by equipping young people with empathy, social values, and civic behaviour through youth work programmes and secondary schools around the country. 🟣 It was brilliant to see Foróige young people attending and embodying the transformative power of empathy in action. Proceeds from the evening will directly support the on-the-ground delivery of this evidence-based programme across Ireland.

It was such a wonderful event to highlight empathy education and research. Thanks to Cillian for his support and engagement with the UNESCO Centre at U of Galway, an important partnership for Penn State and collaboration with Penn State’s UNESCO Chair, Mark Brennan.
