“What is the main reason people seek you out for strategic advice and support to grow their business?” This question was posed to me over the weekend, and my answer caused the person asking to pause deeply and reflect. Their response: “That’s us…” So, what was my answer? “Because they feel stuck, overwhelmed by choices and unconvinced of the next steps being in genuine alignment with their needs. Consciously, or often unconsciously, they’re seeking unbiased, independent guidance to move forward confidently.” I explained that many businesses reach a point where decision-making stalls, not due to a lack of options, but because too many conflicting interests are influencing their choices. They may trust their existing partners, MSPs, or advisers, but often these relationships come with their own commercial agendas and vendor alignments, limiting the scope of genuinely impartial advice. Simply limiting what’s possible to what they can offer. The answer and realisation resonated deeply with them, and for them, it was a breakthrough moment in crystalising what had been at the heart of their own indecision. The hesitation to move forward is directly linked to the confidence that the direction/advice considers their needs deeply, authentically, strategically and, importantly, objectively. So, what’s the key to unlocking progress? Independent and objective advice. By delving deeper into your unique challenges and goals, independent advice provides guidance that goes beyond a solution stack. It keeps the commercial outcomes front and centre, with solutions acting as the enabler, not the driver. Feeling genuinely understood is the key to breaking free from indecision. Shifting from “best of breed” solutions to a “best of need” approach allows you to invest in capabilities finely tuned to your strategic objectives.
