The excitement of a new school year is in the air! 🍎 In the spirit of giving back, our WIRE (Women in Renewable Energy) Employee Resource Group in California's Imperial Valley volunteered at a local school drive, helping to distribute hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to equip students for success. 🎒 We are proud to support Soroptimist International of El Centro and wish students and educators a fantastic school year ahead! 📚 #BackToSchool #CommunityImpact #Education

Truth and Reconciliation. That means many things to many people. This is what it means to me as I think about this important day - for our country. The truth is that I have ingrained bias in many aspects of my life because of my personal background. It's not right or wrong .... it just is. What I'm trying to do is educated myself about things I knew very little about, and wasn't taught in my history books. Through my work at two not-for-profit organizations Missing Children Society of Canada and Wood's Homes I have learned to be much more inclusive and inquisitive. The truth is that the impact on Indigenous people, as a direct result of residential schools, now permeates through our society in ways that most cannot comprehend. The reconciliation of this fact to the 'lens' upon which I view the world I believe has made me better contributor to both Wood's Homes and Missing Children Society of Canada, to support indigenous peoples through both organizations programs and services in a respectful way, and most importantly helping me to become a more inclusive human being.
We are committed to fostering understanding and awareness around the inter-generational impacts of residential schools. This day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting Reconciliation. We had the honour of gifting all our colleagues with orange shirt pins from the Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council in British Columbia in recognition of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, . Proceeds from these pins support the Tribal Council Elders Healing Gathering. In the coming year, we are also pleased to extend our support to Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures Program, which empowers First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students by providing financial support for their post-secondary education. In the spirit of our commitment to driving positive change, we have provided resources and opportunities for further learning and awareness for our employees.

Did you know that 4 out of 10 Southern states rank in the bottom 10 states in per-student expenditures? Limited funding results in fewer opportunities for quality education, extracurricular activities, and essential support services. This underfunding exacerbates disparities, hindering students' potential and perpetuating inequality. The Education Trust recently launched Southerners for Fair School Funding, Dedicated to shedding light on this critical issue and mobilizing communities for change. By raising awareness and advocating for fair funding policies, they're striving to ensure every student receives the resources they need to succeed. This is how you do it! When COVID struck, I wondered why we were still working "in competition" with nearby districts rather than breaking down barriers and pulling together. Post-COVID, when we couldn't find a Latin teacher in another district, I wondered why we weren't utilizing the technology and skills we acquired during COVID to work in collaboration with the neighboring (and better resourced) district who had a superstar Latin teacher. For public education to excel, we need to remove the competition. We need to work together - just as this coalition of 9 rural schools and community partners have done. #Inspirational #ItsPossible #RuralExcellenceInAction #BreakDownBarriers https://lnkd.in/eG-zc4Hk

A vision without resources is an illusion. Strategic planning is essential for Catholic schools to ensure long-term success and sustainability, particularly in a rapidly changing educational landscape. By taking a structured, intentional approach, schools can set clear, measurable goals that align with their mission and values, rather than relying on ad-hoc decisions. This planning process allows schools to thoughtfully allocate resources—financial, human, and operational—ensuring that every initiative is purposefully driving toward long-term goals. Partnering with trusts, foundations and philanthropists to take action on the systems that harm us and our planet | Leadership team at Global Action Plan | Tackling climate change and air pollution
Three years ago, a few of us at Global Action Plan were wondering..... 🏫 Could schools become beacons for low consumption culture? 🛍 Could they relieve the constant, manipulative pressure on our young people to buy, buy, buy? So we got together with a great bunch of students, teachers and community groups and Hammersmith & Fulham Council and created the Schools Good Life Charter, with thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund. The Schools Good Life Charter is a student-led programme that strengthens the symbiotic relationship between a school and its local community to support a low-consumption and carbon culture. Students explore the impacts of our high consumption culture, identify the pressures that create this and create a “School Good Life Charter” - a set of guiding principles - to support a new low-consumption culture. They identify a range of community initiatives to help support their Charters through long-term partnerships. 👇 🗺 This map gives a snapshot of the community projects which are now up and running in Hammersmith and Fulham, supporting everyone to live happier, lower-impact lives. To attract schools we need projects, to create projects we need funders, to attract funders we need schools. A never-ending loop! @ootiboo is growing on all fronts. The other day we achieved our 100 school milestone with a reach of over 30K students. As well as schools across the UK we also have our first German ootiboo school as we extend beyond our little island with our eCo: Svalbard, climate adaptation project. If you have a connection to a school in the UK or beyond do check out ootiboo.com - the more schools, the more we can attract sponsors and funders and create more free creative projects for schools! #primaryschool #educationforall #climateeducation #creativeeducation

https://lnkd.in/gQUB-GT2 THIS! This is such an important issue facing our school sites. For all of those who stood with me for saving the tree canopy at Estancia HS… I thank you, and, I rest my case. It *was* a clear environmental justice issue for the kiddos of Westside Costa Mesa. (Wish we had this map 2 years ago😂🫣) For anyone who is still confused, please check out this tool. Find your kiddos school. Engage in solutions. Ask your district about how they will find and *fund* solutions. The data here is clear. #greenspaceequity

BLUE SCHOOLS FOR A BLUE PLANET I was lucky to influence public policy in Slovakia for one year. Among the many projects that he promoted and supported as a civil activist is the BLUE SCHOOL project. The year was 2010, and together with Martin Kováč, then the Government's representative for the revitalization of the country, we convinced Prime Minister @Iveta Radičová that @Norway financial mechanism should go to meaningful educational projects BLUE SCHOOL. This is how more than 70 such and similar projects were implemented in Slovakia with the development of a manual for educating our children about water. In the conditions of the support, we included that, in addition to educational activities, concrete rainwater retention projects should be implemented in school campuses. The implementation of this wetland pond was in the area of the Primary School in Slanec in the east of Slovakia. This little miracle collects hundreds of cubic meters of rainwater from the roof of the school in a water ecosystem and returns it to small water cycles. Before that, rainwater flowed into the canal, stream, river and sea. Now imagine how many similar schools there are around the world. Millions? And where does the rainwater drain from them? To the channel? Yes. It's a sad story how we teach our children to think twice. In theory, we love nature and chase rainwater out of our lives without blinking an eye. Isn't that why we have a water and climate crisis right around the corner? If, instead of investing in new centralized expensive water infrastructure solutions, we were empathetic towards our children and supported the implementation of millions of such solutions around schools, hundreds of millions of cubic meters of water would return to small water cycles every year. And not only that. The climate around the schools would be more pleasant and the children would breathe clean air without dust. There would certainly be fewer children sick with respiratory diseases. It is not working? I know. Politicians love centralized solutions. Let's ask them why they don't think about their children.
