Our lives. Our planet.

About us

Global Action Plan mobilises people and organisations to take action on the systems that harm us and our planet. We are an environmental charity working towards a green and thriving planet where everyone can enjoy happy and healthy lives within the Earth’s limits.  We tackle the root causes of our climate and nature crises through research, campaigns and collective action.  We focus on issues where the connection between the health of people and our planet is most tangible. This allows us to show the interrelationship and drive solutions that prioritise wellbeing for all.  Our current focus issues are air pollution, excessive consumption and the education system.

"As we celebrate five years of Transform Our World, we're incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work of the teachers and young people we’ve had the privilege to work alongside. Their passion and commitment have been at the heart of every success, driving meaningful change on the issues that matter most to them and embedding sustainability into schools and communities. It’s been an incredible journey empowering a new generation of leaders, and we’re excited to keep building on the momentum from the last 5 years." - Dr Rachel Manning, Head of Transform Our World Watch students explain in their own words how they have taken action in their local community, supported by our Transform Our World practitioners, funded by The #iWill Movement and The National Lottery Community Fund: https://lnkd.in/de5n4gb9

This week, we were delighted that PRWeek UK Awards recognised our 'Rise of the Aggro-rithm' campaign with Vodafone UK News and Tin Man Communications with the Best Technology Campaign award. One-in-10 boys aged 11-14 are seeing harmful content online in as little as 60 seconds as a result of the social media algorithms curating their views. Social media and the algorithms that drive it must be regulated to ensure that our young people get a balanced view of the world. Sonja Graham, Global Action Plan CEO says: "This campaign was ground-breaking on a number of fronts - Vodafone and their PR agency Tin Man absolutely should be celebrated for it. Very few people had been talking about the harms to social media on young boys, and even fewer were willing to call out the underlying cause - the algorithms that curate our views; desensitising, polarising and at worst, radicalising. It was a tough topic for a brand to take on, but Vodafone jumped at it. We went from having a passionate Zoom with their team one week to bringing in our expert academic panel the next and launching the campaign - complete with a film - less than three months later. If you haven't seen the gut-wrenching film created by the brilliant team at Nice and Serious then please watch it and if you haven't signed the petition calling for social media to be made safe by design - then do that now!" ➡️https://lnkd.in/dZsksQzX Rachel Evans Kate Arrowsmith Catherine Russell Chloe Parfitt Tom Tapper Katie Fox

Air pollution can affect your heart health, with research linking exposure to heart disease and stroke. It’s important that heart health professionals can speak to their patients about these harms and the steps they can take to protect themselves ❤️🩹 Following #WorldHeartDay, we are pleased to announce that with the support of Boehringer Ingelheim UK & Ireland we will be running a pilot project from early 2025 to empower heart health professionals to have effective conversations with their patients about air pollution. Contact us at cleanerair@globalactionplan.org.uk to find out more about this pilot or visit the Clean Air Hub to learn about the health impacts of air pollution ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eqqcJqwv

The pressures put on young people to over-consume - and the resulting toxic impact on people and planet - is highlighted by Stop Following Me, a Global Action Plan campaign created by students from Croxley Danes School in Hertfordshire and Ormiston Forge Academy in the West Midlands. With the support of Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, we worked with these young campaigners and creative agency Nice and Serious, to create the campaign film which we shared this week with the Responsible Advertising Committee of the World Federation of Advertisers. 60 brands were on the call to hear about the campaign, watch the film and hear the youth statement of demands. Watch the film and read more about the campaign: https://lnkd.in/exVhVi-F 📺 https://lnkd.in/eYbPENgU
