I am presently preparing a business case to Rejoin the EU. It will be wide ranging, covering economics and other aspects of the STEEPLE factors. But I cannot let the awful response by the far right thugs pass. Brexit has emboldened and empowered Robinson, Farage, Tice, Oakeshott, Braverman, Patel, Jenrick, Badenoch and their EDL followers. If Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves won't listen to the economic case to Rejoin EU will they listen to the socio-cultural case for building a better Britain in a better Europe for a better World? If you choose to ignore the stark warning from these far right thugs, you can expect far worse into the future. Asking my MP.

What has been built in South Africa is extraordinary considering the abyss we were contemplating ahead of the first free and fair elections in 1994, particularly in the province we are based, KwaZulu-Natal. It took South Africans on all sides being more determined to come together and form something new than to hold onto the status quo including privilege, access and security that excluded others. It seems to me that ultimately in Israel-Palestine the only sustainable future is for moderates from all sides to find one another and be determined to forge something new that has the potential to bring prosperity to all. The struggle for the realisation of that goal in South Africa is still very real, but we are at least on that journey. The sooner Israel-Palestine can marginalise the radicals and find each other as moderates committed to a sustainable future together, the sooner the area is on the path to a solution. The question is whether there is the possibility of a groundswell of moderates who can find each other or whether the radicals will continue to win out by radicalising one generation after another through violence and destruction. Foundational to the determination of that possibility is the worldview of each side and whether those worldviews are able to sustain hospitality and acceptance of the Other and therefore sustain any peace that can be forged.

As the momentum builds in the lead up to SIDS4 with the theme ‘Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity’, the Pacific Islands High-Level Conference organised by the IMF with the theme ‘Charting the Course Towards Shared Prosperity’ was a moment where H.E the Prime Minister of Fiji in his opening remarks emphasised that in a complex global scenario of geopolitics competing for own interests, the Pacific nations share a collective interest to charter their region - the Blue Pacific as an ocean of peace with shared prosperity. A region of peaceful co-existence and friendship. The Pacific family. To live by values reflecting peace. Without peace, development progress and economic prosperity are not achievable. This moment, is indeed, a clarion and defining call by the Pacific that peace is essential for inclusive and resilient prosperity.

Focus on building relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. Come prepared with well-researched recommendations. Listen carefully to understand their priorities and constraints. Frame requests in terms of shared goals for the public good. Be flexible but principled. Follow up promptly and courteously. MOFA response to US-Italy Consultation on the Indo-Pacific reaffirming importance of peace and stability across Taiwan Strait The US Department of State on May 21 issued a press statement on the United States-Italy Consultation on the Indo-Pacific cochaired by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Riccardo Guariglia in Washington, DC, earlier that day. The statement noted that the two sides discussed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
