Foreign Secretary David Lammy's message to Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office staff across the UK and around the world ↓
It is such a relief to hear so many newly-appointed holders of government office taking about adherence to the rule of law, rather justifying it being breached "in a specific and limited way". International human rights law and the Geneva Conventions are non-negotiables.
No offence guys I am an immigrant I have lived in 3 democratic countries Gods grace. Politics in any country is about making promises but not following through. Speeches, speeches and more speeches. Nothing comes out though. For instance we were told inflation is down to 2% in may. I do not see any change in my life. My grocery bill increases every month for the same things. Employment is hard. I am gutted to hit likes on LinkedIn to all posts that say I am out of work for n months or I have been laid off. Energy prices high. Interest rates on mortgages are high. My mortgage has gone up by 30%. My mates looking for work make 1000's of applications every month. No luck. Plus look at LinkedIn every role has to the north of 100+ applications. Don't know what measures will be taken to boost private sector hiring. More..... Apologies. I came to this country more than a decade ago and it was Gold. I wish I could say the same now. I really want to. I do believe this country has a tremendous potential but politics needs to change. Education needs to change. NHS is the crown of this country needs fixing. Please don't take offence because I am not. British. Sometimes an outsider is all you need to put things in perspective.
I hope so, but he has a battle ahead if we are to become a country that respects and adheres to international law; that practices and upholds the rights of refugees and those seeking asylum; that ALWAYS opposes war crimes, even if committed by our allies and that recognises the need for and value of responding to the needs of the hungry, displaced and disempowered worldwide. He will meet resistance not just from the government’s political opponents but also from within his own party - the first tests must be Palestine, followed closely by Sudan.
What does any of this mean? Is he really going to be writing stories?
We are already connected to the world David.
Super amazing,I commend his compelling speech , emphasizing the importance of reinstating and strengthening the UK's relationships with Commonwealth countries, the EU, and the broader international community. Your vision for renewed diplomatic efforts and global cooperation is both inspiring and essential for our future. His words have reignited hope for a more united and prosperous global partnership, and his leadership in this endeavour is truly appreciated.
Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office nice speech, but many will judge him and the new administration based on how they handle Israel and it's genocide in Gaza.
love that 'recapture Britain's restless energy' 👏
During the time of Gordon Brown, it was me who put a preposition to his office that we should have "the enterprise world" platform where UK should act as synapse, a hun to connect and repair the relation. It is still on the record of www.ipo.gov.uk Well versed vision by Right honourable #DavidLammy.

2mohmm, don't agree Britain are "disconnected"; we led the way on Ukraine after which other world leaders followed. We are re-engaging world trading markets now post-Brexit rather than only focusing on a nearest neighbour closed trading bloc which is what we should be doing given our island, sea-facing nature, the Commonwealth and our global historical network of partners/allies. But hope he holds the office well and keeps the flag proud
