Harewood Estate, located between North and West Yorkshire, has won the 2024 John Boddy Award 🏆 This prestigious annual forestry award celebrates a different theme each year, and this year focused on woodland management. Harewood's woodland management achievements over the past five years include: ✔️ removing 25 hectares of invasive species ✔️ creating scrub on woodland edges to enhance biodiversity ✔️ undertaking rotational thinning ✔️ introducing natural flood management techniques ✔️ planting 40,000 trees We're so proud to organise and judge this annual award alongside Yorkshire Agricultural Society & Royal Forestry Society, and to have the opportunity to present it at the magnificent Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate. Important update on Florida's urban tree canopy: Quick point gained from this report is overall we lost 2% off our Florida canopy. From 2013 to 2017, all ten regions saw impressive gains, adding 102,408 acres of canopy. However, between 2017 and 2021, we faced significant setbacks, losing 168,052 acres. This resulted in a 2% reduction in our urban forests by 2021 compared to 2013. Storms, especially Hurricane Michael in 2018, played a big role in these losses. While some areas in central and southern Florida gained canopy, the panhandle regions saw declines. Let’s work together to reverse this trend and protect our green spaces! #UrbanForestry #Sustainability #GreenSpaces #TreeCanopy #EnvironmentalImpact #FloridaForests #UrbanGreenery #ClimateResilience #CommunityHealth #ForestConservation #StormImpact #EnvironmentalAwareness
Exciting news for anyone passionate about urban forestry and sustainability! The latest Urban Tree Canopy Assessment for the State of Florida is out, and it's packed with insights on our green spaces. With 1,540,257 acres of canopy, our urban areas boast an average of 36% tree cover. This comprehensive study highlights the vital role our urban forests play and points out opportunities for future growth and improvement.

Thank you Frank Carroll for sharing this! Many, many thanks to the USDA to implement on USFS Lands! Hopefully, this will be a welcome proactive paradigm policy shift for the benefit of the resource. Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of building a partnership between the forest products industry and the federal USFS to progressively manage to prevent catastrophic wildfires while retaining the historic characteristics of our USFS managed forests.👍 Ron Rommel Forestry Professional & Author of Axe-It-First
