"The Guild is actively advocating for and building a resilience workforce, which means a wildland fire workforce that also integrates planting, thinning, and other restoration work. On a recent trip to Washington D.C., two Guild directors, Esmé Cadiente and Eytan Krasilovsky, educated policymakers on the critical benefits of investing in a resilience workforce. As the leader of the Wildfire Resilience Coalition, Esmé has been organizing a broad coalition of groups to ensure that practitioners have a direct hand in shaping effective policy, particularly around workforce." We envision ecologically, economically, and socially responsible forestry as the standard for forest management
About us
The Forest Stewards Guild's mission is to promote ecologically, economically, and socially responsible forestry as a means of sustaining the integrity of forest ecosystems and the human communities dependent upon them. We are a professional organization of forest stewards and affiliates who are passionate about sustaining and restoring the integrity of our forests while meeting the needs of the communities that rely on them. Our members’ work provides tangible examples of forestry that is ecologically, economically, and socially responsible. The common bond of Guild members is a passion for forests and land stewardship. The practice of excellent forestry, promotion of a stewardship ethic, and adherence to our membership principles are the heart and soul of the Guild. Our members practice imaginative silviculture that respects the complexity of natural forests. We value the importance of field observation, experience, science, and continuous learning. We seek opportunities to collaborate, share our knowledge, and learn from others.

Our Jemez Pueblo and Espanola Crews successfully carried out a prescribed burn over the weekend! The crews gained valuable experience, working on ignition teams with drip torches and patrolling the fire line for spot fires. It was a proud moment to see several USDA Forest Service firefighters who started their careers through the FSYC program contributing to the effort. After three years of preparation, the 1701-acre burn unit finally met the weather and fuel conditions required to proceed. The burn was executed as planned, with aerial ignitions complementing the work on the ground. This success showcases the importance of careful planning and training in prescribed fire operations. #ForestStewardsGuild #ForestStewardsYouthCorps #ForestService #WildfirePrevention #FireManagement #PrescribedBurn

🌲 Innovative Financing for Forest Restoration 💰🌳 A new financing model is accelerating forest thinning projects to reduce wildfire risks. The nonprofit Blue Forest's forest resilience bond provides the upfront capital for restoration, with private investors funding these projects. Over time, repayment comes from utilities or companies that benefit from healthier forests. This approach not only speeds up the critical work of creating fire-resilient forests but also offers cost savings for communities. Learn more about this innovative solution to wildfire management. New Study Highlights Impact of Large Forest Fires on Climate 🌲🔥 A recent study in Nature reveals that larger forest fires in temperate and boreal forests lead to prolonged land surface warming, affecting regeneration and climate dynamics for over a decade. Findings suggest that increasing the proportion of broadleaf trees could help mitigate these warming effects. This research underscores the importance of climate-smart forestry practices to adapt to and manage growing fire risks. Read the full study for more insights: https://lnkd.in/gnmPDZvb

The Zuni Mountains Collaborative is working to meet the critical fuelwood needs of local communities, especially Indigenous and Hispanic households in west-central New Mexico. Through partnerships with the National Forest Foundation, USDA Forest Service, and local organizations, the Forest Stewards Guild is helping to build a sustainable model for fuelwood distribution, reducing wildfire risk while ensuring households have the wood they need for heat and cultural activities. 🌲🔥 Learn how community wood banks are making a difference and join us for the upcoming Fuelwood Work Day on October 9th! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g33PFjFr #Fuelwood #SustainableForestry #CommunityResilience #ZuniMountains #WoodBanks #ForestStewardsGuild

Op-ed from the Guild's Zander Evans: The current threats to forests are far too severe to continue business as usual.
