Spain Ethical Trade Forums’ Post

On July, the Ethical Trade Forums visited the farms of one of our associated companies, G's Group, in Cúllar (Granada). Here they are working together with La Isla Network on a project on heat stress that has the support of Sainsbury's, and which is part of the community of practice that we carry out in collaboration with Oxfam. 👉 Within the project, measurements are being made of the physical effort made by the workers, so each of them wears a band on their chest during the work day, which records and measures their beats per minute and then combines this information with their data of weight, height and gender, calculating the effort in kilowatts expended per hour 💪 👉 We thank G's and the Isla Network for making this visit possible and for the effort made to successfully implement this project. We are deeply happy, on the one hand, to see how progress is being made in terms of worker health and safety, and, on the other, to see how our associates put these issues at the center of their strategy 👏 #comercioético #fce #afce #buenasprácticas #estréstérmico #sostenibilidad #heatstress #sustainability

The heat is at an all-time high. Climate change is causing illness and death around the world. Certainly, people who work in the heat are at enormous health risk. And that's tens of millions of jobs. A new report from the International Labour Organization confirms the growing threat of heat stress to workers' health worldwide and its economic impact. Praise to the people in the La Isla Network, whose work for better and more efficient working conditions is discussed at length in the report as a good example. Workers' lives, as well as production and the economy, are at risk from rising temperatures. Fortunately, by adopting innovative protocols, companies can ensure the future of their businesses and protect the health of their employees. The report underlines the urgency of taking action now! Workers' lives, as well as production and the economy, are at risk from rising temperatures. Fortunately, by adopting innovative protocols, companies can ensure the future of their businesses and protect the health of their employees. This is not just an issue in Asia or Africa, but also in the United States and Europe. I urge companies to take responsibility and work with organizations like La Isla Network to protect the health of their workers.” DUTCH: Hitte slaat keihard toe. #heatstress #ILO #labor #climatechange

It's great to see companies like Sainbury’s's and G's Group participating in research to ensure the right of workers to a safe and healthy working environment. This makes them true frontrunners in Europe. During this study we had access to all workers present and were able to get a full picture of the efficiency of the occupational safety and health measures in place. We were also able to follow workers, measure their health and circumstances in the field. This project is an inspiring example of how companies invest time and energy in improving working conditions, wanting to learn and develop. This is how we can protect workers' health and the productivity of companies, in times of a changing climate. Together with partners as Foros de Comercio Ético Sergio Barbera. we can and should move this forward.
