"Make principals and what it takes to support them a top strategic priority in your district." As a principal for 14 years before taking my current role, I can attest to the growing demands and challenges of the role and the need for ongoing support, networking, and professional learning experiences to sustain effective leadership and retain strong leaders. Always interested in learning with and from principals and district leaders from other districts about this critical work. How do you provide the support critical for school leaders?

I help Canadian educators increase equity and student success through MTSS & SoR training, coaching, and consulting. 📚
I get this question a lot. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about what MTSS is. Is it just RTI / tiered instructional services? Is it Special Education? MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) are just that - interconnected systems of support that when orchestrated together drive equity, inclusion and support for teachers deeper into our educational systems than before... but that is a wordy answer that doesn't tell us a lot. How about this one... At its simplest, MTSS dismantles the wall between special and general education. So no, it is not a special ed thing. There are no special ed kids, and gen-ed kids. There are just kids... ...and MTSS is a framework that allows us to create a system that meets them where they are at, so we can help them get to where they want to go.

Read the dimensions twice! When you read them the first time you go - yes, we do that! When you really focus on them you begin to wonder around the conditions and connections you have with all learners. Who is least served in your school? The next big lift in school improvement is possible when we change the conditions for all learners to succeed. Time to flip our thinking around the contemporary pedagogy required to see all students learning and achieving.
