Having a valuable discussion with the carbon trading experts from Indonesia Stock Exchange (Mr. Edwin Hartanto, CFP , Mrs. Puspita Pratiwi , Mr. Parlin Tambunan ). We exchanged insights on how to leverage carbon trading as part of sustainable business development on Indonesian manufacturing sector, particularly iron and steel industry. As a collective effort to combat climate change, mandated by the 2015 Paris Agreement and further addressed at the most recent COP28, businesses around the globe are racing to reduce their embedded emissions while maintaining long-term business sustainability. Due to their business nature and access to capital, some companies can be more aggressive than others in implementing carbon reduction initiatives, even though the necessity for carbon reduction is essential for all companies. This phenomenon creates market dynamics where companies with excess carbon credits can trade them to those who want to reduce their emissions further. Therefore, IDX Carbon's future role in Indonesia is crucial. It can facilitate carbon trading within the country and incentivize various industry sectors to contribute to green initiatives. Furthermore, it is important for IDX Carbon's products to be compliant with relevant domestic and potentially international regulations to enable smooth cross-border carbon offsetting for Indonesian companies exporting carbon-intensive products. This feature could provide a significant advantage in upcoming more-competitive nature of international trade. P.S. Credit to high school classmate Mr. Yusuf Adi Pradana whose network in the Indonesian capital market contributed in enabling this fruitful discussion. #carbontrading #carbonemission #carbonexchange #idx #idxcarbon #ptbaepu #spegrk #srnppi #greeninitiatives #emissiontrade #decarbonization #carbonneutral

#DYK Indonesia has committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as outlined in its nationally determined contribution (NDC)? Presidential Regulation No. 98/2021 on Implementation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) was also enacted to help the country achieve its emissions reduction targets. In addition, Indonesia launched the Indonesia Carbon Exchange ( IDX Carbon; Indonesia Stock Exchange) to provide markets for trading of carbon credits to accelerate carbon emission reduction through certified projects. Following discussions at #BlueCarbonDialogue, there's exciting news! Stakeholders, including non-state actors, private sector, business and coastal communities, are interested to invest and develop blue carbon projects in Indonesia – the largest host of mangroves in the world! Supporting these projects can accelerate Indonesia's goal of reaching net zero emissions (NZE) in 2060 or earlier. Head over to our post for other details! Mr President reiterated how dangerous climate change is, how urgent the energy transition is, and how important sustainability is, however, do not doubt Indonesia's commitment to achieving net zero emissions and contributing to a greener world. Indonesia has abundant green energy potential, reaching more than 3,600 giga watts. Indonesia also has a floating solar power plant with a capacity of 192 MWp, the largest in Southeast Asia and the third largest in the world. Indonesia also has great potential for carbon absorption, Indonesia's mangrove forests are the largest in the world at 3.3 million hectares, which are able to absorb carbon 8 to12 times better than tropical rainforests. Indonesia has a green industrial area, covering an area of 13,000 hectares, also one of the largest in the world. *A note from the key speech of The President of Republik Indonesia in Opening Ceremony of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024, yesterday 5th September 2024. #ISF2024 #sustainability #greenenergy #netzeroemission

I and Lukas Singarimbun from Center for World Trade Studies UGM are thrilled to share our op-ed in The Jakarta Post (12/1) on the geoeconomics challenges facing Indonesia's energy transition plan after the COP28 Summit. We explained how geoeconomic competition affects the lack of financing and disruption of the supply chain for renewable energy projects. This, in result, makes the cost of the renewable energy transition extraordinarily high for Indonesia—and other developing nations. To increase Indonesia's competitive edge, we argue that the country must begin addressing issues related to environmental regulation, adjustment of local content requirements (TKDN), and avoiding the 'greenwashing' practice in our green incentive policies, including OJK's 'green taxonomy.' Some arguments are inspired by the works of Mas Arianto Patunru and Mas Moch Faisal Karim. Critics are very much welcome! 👇🏻 The online version (paywalled) is available here: https://lnkd.in/gu5A8jQk.

SUN Energy's ESG Commitment: Solar System Donation for Energy Education at Cikarang Japanese School ☀️ Since its founding in 2019, Cikarang Japanese School (CJS) has fostered a strong community among students, teachers, and parents, all dedicated to sustainable education. The school promotes environmental awareness through tree planting and SDG learning sessions, with a strong focus on sustainability. To support these efforts, SUN Energy, through the SUN Foundation, has donated a solar energy system to CJS. This installation helps reduce carbon emissions, supports renewable energy, and provides power to the school’s facilities. This initiative also highlights SUN Energy’s commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, aiming to make a positive impact on the environment and society. Just before the Eid break, we are honored to support Coal De Sac in completing a series of motion graphic explainer videos. As learning & content providers, it's a blessing for us to gain insights and awareness about ongoing issues in the world. These videos cover The Just Energy Transition Partnership Indonesia (JETP Indonesia), a significant international collaboration aimed at facilitating a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia. Launched in November 2022 by the Indonesian government and the International Partners Group (IPG), this program, valued at US$20 billion, combines public financing from IPG members and private financing from the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). Despite its substantial value, the allocated grant funds for Indonesia only amount to US$295.4 million, representing a small fraction of the total promised funding. This raises questions about the adequacy of support from developed nations in addressing emissions reduction and environmental recovery, especially considering their significant contribution to global emissions. JETP Indonesia offers an opportunity for IPG countries to showcase their commitment to the energy transition, particularly in supporting affected communities and environmental restoration. Join us in championing this vital cause and driving meaningful change! Together, let's pave the way for a brighter, greener future for Indonesia. 💚 #SustainableEnergy #JETPIndonesia #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #GreenFuture Look Media Coal De Sac Aris Suryo Falih Azmi Mayndi Fathir Alfath Wahyudi Seto Aji Miftah Chairun Nisa Muhamad Dedi Trikusuma Wardana Arista Hilman Naufal Hibatullah Dara Tientan Melati
