Healthcare payments company Waystar on Monday announced a new generative artificial intelligence tool that can help hospitals quickly tackle one of their most costly and tedious responsibilities: fighting insurance denials. Hospitals and health systems spend nearly $20 billion a year trying to overturn denied claims, according to a March report from the group purchasing organization Premier Inc.. “We think if we can develop software that makes people’s lives better in an otherwise stressful moment of time when they’re getting health care, then we’re doing something good,” Waystar CEO Matt Hawkins told CNBC. Waystar’s new solution, called AltitudeCreate, uses generative AI to automatically draft appeal letters. The company said the feature could help providers drive down costs and spare them the headache of digging through complex contracts and records to put the letters together manually. #healthcare #healthinsurance #genai #AI

Health Insurance Executives inevitably ask the same question: "How do I safely integrate Generative AI into Member Services?” Ushur answers that question by solving their 3 biggest challenges: 1. Meeting HIPAA standards 2. Preventing hallucinations and understanding intent (through vertical LLMs) 3. Delivering immediate, measurable results/ROI The cross-industry consensus is that customer support functions stand to gain the most from GenAI because the benefits are so obvious. But many health insurance leaders –– jaded from the botched implementations of the pre-pandemic tech era, often resulting in cautious hesitation to adopt new technologies, particularly AI –– are skeptical of the safety & impact of AI implementations in such a highly regulated space. However, there are forward-thinking organizations (even ones you wouldn’t expect) overcoming those concerns through partners and solutions that understand the complexities of their industries and can provide the guidance necessary to dare to try. Those who try are rewarded with tangible benefits like cost savings, enhanced member satisfaction, and operational efficiencies—rewards that compound as other organizations sit on the sidelines, hesitant to take the measured risk necessary to shape an AI strategy. #enterpriseAI #healthinsurance #MLR #memberengagement

Legislators in different U.S. states are clamping down on #healthinsurance companies' use of artificial intelligence (AI). Arguments for this position claim that while #AI can improve #efficiency, the use of the #software to handle patient #claims can raise concerns about inaccuracies and bias in #healthcare decision making. Insurance groups have previously argued the state proposals can go too far in regulating their decision making, but the issue is starting to reach the federal level as well. https://lnkd.in/eH6evux6 #NARFA #healthcarecosts #insurance #legislation #artificialintelligence
