Building trust This is Bebe. She’s a great cat, even with the occasional hairball “gift”.   She likes to come into my office a couple of times a day and poke me in the ribs, demanding scratches.  When she receives said scratches, she will wander juuuuusssstt out of my reach and stare at me. I have to lean way over to continue giving her the attention she is demanding. And then she’ll sit down and lean back, once again just out of reach.  So, I get up, pick her up, cradle her in the crook of an arm, and give her scratches.  She almost immediately begins purring.  When Bebe came into my family’s life, she didn’t like to be picked up.  It took many, many times of picking her up for her to realize that she could trust me and was about to get the best scratches she could imagine.  I can’t blame her for having trust issues; she’d had a rough life.  Bebe was a rescue.  When she was found, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and had kidney issues.  The Vet pulled 2 BB’s out of her. (That’s how she got her name.) She was at the Vet for 2 weeks.  Almost didn’t make it. But here she is, living her best life. And she deserves it. Building trust takes time.
