I love hearing what makes people go vegan. There are so many reasons that lead people to wake up from their cognitive dissonance. "This psychological bias happens when people try to hold two or more contradictory beliefs at the same time – in this case, 'I like animals' and 'I like meat'." Check out this article to read about former animal industry people who now work in plant-based foods. #veganbusinesses #plantbasedfoods #entrepreneurs #THIS #Tindle #TheVegetarianButcher #ThoseVeganCowboys #farmtransformation #transfarmation #ag #farming #changeisnow #adapting

Are you accidentally Starving you Animals? Well! Its very Possible. Let's Breakdown what we call FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio) in an Understandable term. Imagine you have a chicken, and you're curious about how much food it needs to grow bigger. You feed the chicken some corn or feed, and it starts to put on weight. Let’s say you give your chicken 2 kilograms of food. After eating, the chicken gains 1 kilogram of weight. This gives you an FCR of 2:1, meaning it takes 2 kilograms of food to help the chicken gain just 1 kilogram of weight. Now, what if you want your chicken to gain 3 kilograms of weight? Simple! Just multiply the FCR(2kg) by 3. That means you’ll need 6 kilograms of food. The lower the FCR, the better, it is because the animal is getting bigger with less food. This not only saves money but also conserves resources. Here’s an easy formula to keep in mind: FCR = Food eaten ÷ Body weight gained So, if your bird eats 10 grams of Maize or Guinea corn and gains 5 grams of weight, its FCR is 10 ÷ 5 = 2gram of Maize to 1gram bodyweight (2:1). Now Compare to someone that have to feed 1.5gram of Maize to gain the same 1 gram of bodyweight. (The Lower the FCR the better) This is Applicable to all Livestocks (Chicken was used as example for simplicity) In essence, FCR reveals how well your animals convert food into valuable products like meat, eggs, or milk. The lower the number, the more efficient and cost-effective your farming becomes! #Livestockfeed

Animal ag CEOs benefit every time #vegans fight each other. This article nailed the importance of supporting each other as vegans and every company involved in reducing animal consumption.
The plant-based sector is in dire need of a joint coalition to bring education and support to help evolve to a more sustainable food system. The lobbyist and animal farming subsidized need to be replaced with a stronger holistic support that includes more diversity and a goal to reduce the burden on the planet. More to come.

Some good news in Germany 🇩🇪 and Austria 🇦🇹 where a resounding two thirds of people surveyed are in favour of cultivated meat being produced and sold in their countries, if regulators give it the a-ok. ✅ Our bet? That number goes way up when it comes to cultivated meat for pet food. 🐶 Also kind of interesting: about half of the respondents were interested in cutting down their animal product consumption and were in favour of animal product alternatives. 🍳 Here are the survey results from our good friends at Good Food Institute Europe 👉 https://lnkd.in/dd-VQ4Ba #cultivatedmeat #alternativeprotein #futureoffood

Have you had your soup go bad due to the catfish you used? . . Ladies, draw closer......... Most fish farmers are trying to cut down cost of production due to expensive feed. They supplement their feeding with poultry droppings.🤧 Gross right? Do you know this leaves an off-taste on the fish flesh? Liken it to yourself when you eat garlic/ginger. You sweat it from your pores and start smelling like it right? Well, feeding catfish with poultry litter or waste affects the flavor and taste of the fish meat. There are some compounds that causes these undesirable flavors in catfish from Chicken waste: geosmin, 2-methylisoborneol (MIB), and cresols. These come from the feces specifically. Geosmin produces an earthy flavor. MIB tastes musty or muddy. Cresols can taste medicinal. These flavors get stored in the catfish's fatty tissues. Although, the flavor imparted depends on the amount and type of droppings used to feed. Chicken manure seems to be worse than turkey or other poultry waste. These Off-flavors and soured soups are more noticeable in warmer months when the fish metabolize fat faster. You can reduce perceptible off-flavors by soaking filets in milk or saltwater before cooking. Aggressive seasoning also helps mask it. P.S. Has this ever happened to you or someone you know? P.S.S. Repost to wider reach! ----------------------------------------- Meeting me for the first time? Hop on a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 30-min consultation call with me to discuss starting or scaling up your fish farming production! #offtaste #knowledge #fishcoach #fishchronicles #health

For a long time, getting cultivated meat on UK shelves was a minefield. But Brits can finally buy some cultivated chicken – for their furry friends, that is. Meatly is weeks away from becoming the first company allowed to sell cultivated meat anywhere in Europe. While it had previously teased cat food, it has since pivoted to dog food for the launch, its founders Owen Ensor and Helder Cruz told me. In a wide-ranging interview, we talked about: - how the UK's regulatory process for novel food works - the Food Standards Agency's move to fast-track approval post-Brexit - how Meatly created protein-free media to slash costs - why hybrid meat (cultivated cells blended with plant-based ingredients) is the way to go right now - their upcoming Series A fundraiser and expansion plans - the importance of humanising cultivated meat "No one has ever really explained to a consumer what this is, how it's made and what the benefits are. There is an education step and an explanation step," says Ensor. "Whenever we've explained to people that this is a safe, healthy, sustainable and kind way of feeding us and our pets, and [that] we don't use antibiotics or steroids or hormones, there's no contamination risk, there's no GMOs involved – that goes a long way to providing people reassurance." Should #plantbased alternatives be prevented from being named after foods of animal origin? First #dairy products, then #meat, now #fish: the fight to ban plant-based alternatives from being named after 'original' products continues in the #EU. Last month, the European Parliament called on the European Commission to review existing legislation on the #labelling of plant-based products imitating fishery and #aquaculture products. The revision should ban the use of terms such as 'fish' and the use of certain fish species, e.g. 'tuna', to describe plant-based alternatives to fish products.
