July 17 recognizes World Emoji Day and many of the world's symbolic icons for digital calendars. This day encourages us to use emojis to send unique messages. 🎉💬 #WorldEmojiDay Before the emoji, there were emoticons. Emoticons (emotion + icon) were developed to express emotions in the cold, hard texts that were devoid of them. 😊➡️😃 Emoji, a Japanese expression, roughly means "picture word" and was created by Shigetaka Kurita in 1990. While working for the Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo, Kurita designed these picture words as a feature on their pagers to make them more appealing to teens. 📱👨🎨🖼️ One of my favorite emojis is the 🦊 (fox) and 🌈 (rainbow)! 🌟 Happy Emoji Day! 🎉 🌟 Did you know that today, September 19th, we celebrate Emoji Day? 🤩 While we usually think of emojis as a modern creation, the origins of emoticons actually date back to the early 1800s! The first known instance of an emoticon appeared in an 1800s speech by Abraham Lincoln, who used “:-)” to lighten the mood of his audience. Of course, they weren’t used in text messages or emails back then, but these early symbols gave us a glimpse of how we could use characters to express emotion. Fast forward to 1999, when Japanese designer Shigetaka Kurita created the first official set of 176 emojis for mobile phones. Since then, emojis have become a global language of their own, with over 3,000 available today! From simple :-) to 🙌, emojis have come a long way! So let’s celebrate today by spreading some emoji love and creativity! What’s your favorite emoji?
