It’s app round-up time for June with Instagram the most downloaded app globally for the 8th month in a row with around 61m downloads. TikTok came in second with roughly 52m downloads. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram complete the top five, with Telegram coming in at around 32m downloads. It looks like Instagram is still a good - and growing - place to focus your marketing efforts and as TikTok is also still doing well, short-form video content is continuing to be popular.

✍🏼 Threads, the Twitter-like platform developed by Meta, has initiated live testing of its API with a select group of partners. This test phase includes the capability for post scheduling within the app, potentially offering benefits for media organizations in terms of content management and engagement. 🔍 During this initial testing stage, the API integration enables users to perform key functions such as authentication, thread publishing, and content access via third-party tools. Future updates are anticipated to incorporate additional features such as reply moderation and insights capabilities. 💡 For media entities, this presents an opportunity to explore more streamlined methods of content distribution and audience interaction. Post scheduling functionality may assist brands and publishers in managing their Threads presence more effectively, fostering increased participation within the platform. 📊 Moreover, the integration of analytics tools could provide valuable data insights, enabling businesses to refine their Threads strategies and enhance audience engagement metrics. ⚠️ As Threads progresses, there is a commitment to maintaining a „positive“ user experience and mitigating potential risks. By avoiding certain growth pathways such as chronological search and Trending Topics, Threads aims to uphold quality standards and minimize spam or misinformation. 🌱 Looking ahead, Threads seeks to establish itself as a platform conducive to constructive public discourse, aligning with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the app's growth trajectory. 🛠️ Media organizations may explore opportunities to leverage Threads' evolving capabilities for more effective content dissemination and engagement strategies. The ongoing testing phase signifies potential avenues for collaboration and innovation within the social media landscape. #SocialMedia #DigitalStrategy #Threads

Is Instagram making DMs the main focus of the app? 🤔 Jasmine Enberg posted this screenshot on Threads last week, after noticing that the Messaging Icon had been moved to the middle of the navigation tab. We know that more and more engagement is happening in DMs nowadays and that the comment section isn’t used as much to tag people and share content as it used to. 💬 But now it looks like Instagram is actively guiding user behaviour towards communication & engagement with connections. ✉️ 🙋🏻♂️ Personally, I think it could be interesting to see different UI for creators ‘and consumer’ (people who consume content rather than post content). For creators, it makes most sense to have the ‘+’ creation/posting button in the middle of the navigation tab, but that incentive might not be as powerful for non-creators, who use the app to communicate and share content with friends. What do you think?

LinkedIn is testing a new short-form video feature in its iOS app, replacing the My Network tab with a video tab for selected users. According to Techcrunch.com "The new addition is similar to the vertical short-form video feeds you see in other apps, but while those feeds include a variety of content ranging from comedy to cooking videos, LinkedIn’s feed is obviously focused on careers and professionalism" Considering LinkedIn's history of adapting and sometimes retiring new features (like Stories), it'll be intriguing to see how this video experience resonates with the user base. Is this a strategic move forward for LinkedIn? Time and user engagement will tell. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/gbnghnw3 #LinkedInShortFormVideo #LinkedInNewFeatures #LinkedInVideoTab
