Day 2 of answering “UNSW Founders runs how many accelerators???” As founders like Sam van Bohemen and Mark G. will tell you, the Health 10x Accelerator is a powerful boost to help you go from idea to medical product. This is a support process that helps Australian startups commercialise health innovations - powered by philanthropy and partnerships with The George Institute for Global Health, Virtus Health and Australian Medical Angels. I recently sat down with Joseph W. Po, PhD to understand how the Health 10x Accelerator helps founders and learn tips for how to make your application stand out. Applications for the Health10x Accelerator are open now and close on 20 May: https://lnkd.in/gFRaf6DJ #startups

While firms increase R&D & other safety-related investments, those investments have limited impact on mitigating the negative outcomes caused by downstream product shocks. Better to look for ways to be the shock. #innovation #research #business #Startups #entrepreneurship

They say the customer is always right. While I have several bones to pick with this aphorism—no, Karen, this doesn’t give you the right to treat the manager like absolute garbage—there’s a nugget of truth in every cliché. When it comes to building a #femtech #startup, your potential customer is indeed your north star. ⭐️ If you don’t know what they really need, you may end up building something no one wants to use. This is a lesson I’ve been reflecting on this ✨ One to Watch Wednesday ✨ as I’m preparing to wrap up 7 weeks of #customerdiscovery with former #O2WW feature company, Lasa Health. Earlier this summer, the Lasa team was accepted into the NSF’s Innovation Corps, a rigorous program of #businessdevelopment and customer research geared specifically to developing science- and tech-focused startups. As Industry Mentor to Lasa Health alongside Entrepreneurial Lead Margaret Melville and Technical Lead Lily Shanta Howlader, I dove into the intense curriculum and complex learning process of I-Corps. Over 7 weeks, the Lasa Health team have been laser-focused on narrowing down their beachhead market of early adopters. I can’t overstate how proud I am of the work they’ve done and the knowledge they’ve gained. Margaret and Lily completed nearly 100 interviews 🤯 with potential future customers and even some competitors. They’ve synthesized their learnings, generated new ideas for their business, and pivoted their efforts to focus on the most valuable areas for future development. Here’s what happens when you take the time to really listen to 100 potential customers: 🤔 You realize that what you thought your customers needed isn’t always the most important thing to them. 👩🏻⚕️ You learn what makes your customers tick: what they like, what drives them crazy, and what they wish they could change. 💡You discover how you can adapt your business plan and your product offerings to solve your customers’ problems for them. It’s been an absolute honor to work with this group of talented #womenshealth innovators. I’m excited to see where Lasa Health goes from here as they continue building a better way to manage chronic #pelvicpain 🚀 #womenshealthmatters #lgbtqhealth #womxn #medicalinnovation #healthtech #productdevelopment #clinicalconsultant https://lnkd.in/gCtKqVpZ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey there! I’m Dr. Caitlyn Tivy, a clinical consultant and medical writer for women’s and LGBTQ+ health companies. I help femtech and queer health organizations develop scientifically accurate information and products. Ready to take your femtech or queer health company to the next level? Let’s connect! ♀ 🏳️🌈

What if a pathway to clinical trial buy-in and support can come from relationships with smaller cities (Boise, Raleigh, Greeneville), not just traditional health tech hubs like Boston? For example, Incora is a health tech startup making health-tracking earrings. It got its clinical trial off the ground because of buy-in from the University of South Carolina’s local medical school. Co-founder Ms Gevaert said, “In bigger cities, it would take much longer to establish these kinds of opportunities.” Fascinating. Smallness might be an advantage and a pathway to accelerating health tech innovation adoption and diffusion. Via The Economist. https://lnkd.in/gdWMDRdy
