Great to see this in Forbes! EXCERPT: Regenerative farming and ranching represent, in my opinion, the single most powerful tool humanity has in its kit to restore our out-of-balance carbon cycle as it rebuilds the (presently crashing) biodiversity of the planet. It is also the most scalable in that, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately 38% of the global land surface is under cultivation. This amounts to about 17.2 million square kilometers. Regenerative farmers and ranchers enhance soil health and increase the percentage of soil organic matter in the ground. To do this, we need more stewards, we need to take care of these stewards, we need to build regenerative supply chains, and we need capital. There is not enough money flowing to rural communities to support the significant role these communities play in the regenerative transformation. One of #Bayer’s strategic priorities is to help shape regenerative agriculture by investing in innovations that increase food production, farm incomes and climate resilience, while also protecting and restoring nature. Bayer is working on the decarbonization of the food value chain focusing on farmers’ activities and connecting them with companies from the food value chain. The idea is to reward growers for adopting regenerative agriculture practices like using cover crops, tillage reduction, crop rotations and precision nitrogen application. These activities sequester carbon in the soil while improving soil health, resilience and productivity as well as limiting emissions. #bayer #sustainableagriculture

Why does conventional agriculture resist regenerative production? And why is it crucial that we care? General Mills aims to advance regenerative agriculture on 1 million acres of land by 2030, a promise it made in 2019.
