Empowering Healthcare Advocates!
A successful collaboration with the UNESCO 03 Plus Project at DUCE plays a great role in strengthening the use and management of students health services scorecards at DUCE for peer educators and health services providers

As students across the country return to classrooms, it's a timely reminder that education is more than just a learning journey—it's a critical driver of #healthequity. 📚
Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the CDC recognize education as a fundamental social determinant of health. From the quality of learning environments to the highest level of education achieved, each factor directly impacts health outcomes.
By recognizing the power of education, care teams can empower patients to engage in healthier behaviors, make informed decisions, and manage chronic conditions more effectively. Educated patients are better equipped to navigate the healthcare system and achieve better outcomes.

New Commentary in RRH: Rural healthcare provider recruitment: time to focus on opportunities rather than scarcity by Benjamin Weber.

Rural healthcare human resources challenges persist, despite the existence of many different initiatives to increase rurally focused training opportunities. This Commentary makes the case for a paradigm shift away from specialist curricula and training in urban centres, towards decentralization of training and capitalizing on the opportunity to increase rural practitioner mentorship of trainees. The concept of rural training in place is introduced, enabled by distance learning technology, to provide an immersive, longitudinal, rural training model, that would allow learners to build and maintain community integration throughout training.

Very informative read from McKinsey & Company that discusses the healthcare workforce shortage in the US and proposes three educational models to address it: health systems creating their own educational entities, forming partnerships with educational institutions, and collaborating with vendors to provide education. Check it out here: https://mck.co/497f9r5.
📈 Earlier this year, the UK government released the Long Term Workforce plan; noting plans to double the number of medical students to 15,000 per year (starting with 500 new places in 2025). 💭 This is a welcomed proposal. However, as detailed in Wonkhe article by David Kernohan, the expansion needs to be thoughtful and strategic. ⚖ David’s examines the current challenges within healthcare education, and the need to strike a balance between increased demand, underinvestment and resource allocation. 🤝 The article lays clear the need for new partnerships and innovative teaching approaches to modernise healthcare education.
