An #altiport is an aerodrome for small #airplanes and #helicopters, situated on or within mountainous terrain. Altiports are generally characterized by having a #runway with an atypical slope to fit in the local topography. Ultimately, this slope helps #aircraft decelerating when landing and assists acceleration during takeoff. High altitude results in less lift available to aircraft wings, which requires aircraft to achieve higher speed at #takeoff and #landing. Such airfields with unusual physical characteristics are frequent in regions such as the French Alps, Himalayan regions, as well as Pacific islands. #Courchevel Altiport. Extremely challenging and demanding operations. #Pilatus #PC12 is one of the best aircraft to fly here.
Courchelev Airport! What an amazing airfield to see in operation.

So climate activists now take aim at the use of long-established airfields by private sector users? Airfields like Farnborough have served military and private jet aircraft for decades, non-jet aircraft for almost a century! Is their concern that increased aircraft movements, including private jets, may contribute to both noise and climate effects on those who have chosen to live near a long-established airfield? Or is it purely a means to push for the closure or reduced activity at an airfield now surrounded by residential users who actually chose to live in that environment? Next they’ll be demonstrating about new or upgraded road construction aimed at reducing trafic congestion- another blight on the real need to address climate change constructively, and with a true sense of urgency. I detect a smidgeon of hypocrisy when pilots fall for this kind of misguided rhetoric!
What a beautiful day calling out the absurd expansion of private jets at Farnborough Airport #banprivatejets https://lnkd.in/eqRj7tVM

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has approved a minimum of $400 million in private investment to construct a four-story cargo facility at Miami International Airport (MIA) that will be the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Daniella Levine Cava, Mayor, Miami-Dade County says: "This is great news for our community and our economy. MIA is our largest economic engine, generating thousands of jobs for our residents and significant income for many of our leading industries, from tourism to small businesses. MIA continues to increase its ranks among U.S. airports and worldwide regarding cargo volume. With the construction of this unprecedented, state-of-the-art air cargo facility now on track, sky is the limit for where MIA can lead the air cargo industry globally after consecutive record-breaking years in cargo growth since 2020." Ireland: what a contrast to the UK approach! Let's be honest, there is no intention to level up the UK. Government policy is to make major promises which make the north think something good is coming. It never arrives of course because of later policy shifts. There has to be a seismic shift in thinking and action in government. Social and wider community benefit must be really embraced. Old thinking on the Green Book must be swept away. Revenue and capital support for regional airports is part of that new thinking. Regional airports are beacons for growth and must be supported. There seems no realistic likelihood of that happening in the UK, at least in the short term, but it does not, and should not, stop us pressing for a huge sea change in attitude. Thanks to Save Doncaster Sheffield Airport for highlighting this item from Shannon Airport. Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Doncaster Chamber South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority
The Shannon Airport Group welcomes today’s announcement by the Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers TD., of €7.1 million in funding for Shannon Airport under the Regional Airports Programme. This funding supported some of the vital safety and security operational costs of running Shannon Airport during 2023. We are proud of what we have been able to achieve so far, and we know that if Shannon Airport were included permanently in the Regional Airports Programme, we can achieve even more for the people of our region while supporting the Government’s ambition to achieve balanced regional development.
