📊 MILESTONE ALERT! 📊 We're happy to announce that the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network's #GoldCohort grew by a record number of cases last month! With the addition of 439 new cases in February, the Network has now surpassed the 4,000 case milestone, gaining new momentum in its goal of reaching 15k in the next two years. This growth would not be possible without the incredible work done by patients, nurses, clinicians, researchers, technicians and administrators at our 34 member institutions. #ExcitingNews: The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded $12.45 million to establish ASPIRE, a national cohort to study cancer risks in diverse Asian American communities. This effort addresses the underrepresentation of Asian Americans in clinical trials and aims to uncover unique cancer risk factors. UC Irvine, in partnership with University of California, San Francisco and other institutions, will help recruit 20,000 participants. Dr. Sora Park Tanjasiri and Dr. Sunmin Lee will lead these efforts at UC Irvine Public Health, focusing on reducing the cancer burden on Asian American communities. The third European Commission Initiative on #CervicalCancer #EC_CvC starts soon after the #ECIBC on #BreastCancer and the #ECICC on #ColorectalCancer. The #EC_CvC will develop the clinical guidelines and quality assurance scheme for cervical cancer.

🌿 Publication Alert: The bodily experiences of AYAs 🌿 I am honored to share our latest research, "‘There is still a part of me that would love to be the old me again’, how do adolescents and young adults (AYA) experience cancer-related bodily changes: a phenomenological interview study", now published in the Journal of Cancer Survivorship. https://lnkd.in/etBqd5dz This study is a profound exploration of the lived experiences of individuals facing the physical and emotional changes, brought on by cancer and following treatments. 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We're thrilled to announce a ground-breaking new research project on leukaemia, funded by 11 incredible CCLG Special Named Funds. This project, led by Dr Elitza Deltcheva from University College London, aims to find a way to detect relapsed B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) cells sooner. Dr Deltcheva explains: "Even though cancer treatment is long and very toxic, some cancer cells can survive and cause the disease to return - sometimes years after the initial diagnosis. "In this project, we are trying to understand what makes these cells different from the rest and how to identify them. Our ultimate goal is to develop tools to help doctors identify the cells that may survive therapy and kill them from the onset. If successful, this could prevent relapses and cure more children." ‘Improving Breast Cancer Care in the Middle East and Africa’ report has recently been released by IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics. I am honored to have contributed to this significant work, and to have participated as a panelist at the recent International Alliance of Patients' Organizations (IAPO) dissemination event, where we discussed the report's findings and the importance of advancing care. This comprehensive study sheds light on the challenges faced throughout the region, with a focus on enhancing detection, diagnosis, treatment, and overall organization of care, and provides valuable country-specific recommendations for improvement based on the WHO's Global Breast Cancer Initiative.
