It's Spring Equinox! Today the light and the dark of the day are equal, and in the northern hemisphere, this time is often a time when people plant new seeds to harvest later. Spring has always been my favorite time of year. In Texas where I grew up, it's wildflower season, and the roadsides are covered with dots of vibrant color that look like something George Seurat would paint. It's Rodeo season and you can go see animals be born into the world. Birds are emerging from nests as they break through their eggs. The world feels like it is teeming with life after the quiet of winter. As we enter this spring, I'm thinking about what I want to plant to bring to the world. I'm hoping I can continue to find people who want to transform their workplaces. I believe we can change how people work together. I believe its possible to create workplaces where everyone can thrive. I believe we can unlearn ways of managing and leading that are dominating and controlling. I believe we can learn to lead and manage in liberatory ways. I know breaking with traditional ways of working isn't for every organization but I hope the people who do want to do this work can find each other. "LORDCOnes" This morning, I received an email sent to all employees at Lordco's Head Office about an activity tagged as a "Brain Break," where we will customize traffic cones for the upcoming fair at the PNE. The sender initially framed it as a simple call for help with the project, emphasizing the need for participation in customizing the traffic cones, but from my perspective, this activity offers much more than just completing a task. It’s a creative and engaging way to involve employees in enhancing the company’s brand visibility by allowing us to personalize the cones with stickers. This seemingly simple action of randomly placing stickers transforms the cones into unique representations of our brand, contributing to a memorable presence at the upcoming fair. Moreover, it serves as a refreshing "brain break," providing us with a welcome distraction from our usual office tasks, fostering team spirit, and encouraging creativity. As a new employee at Lordco, I look forward to more activities like this that have an impact on shaping the company culture.
