The narrative that the price of resistance is always paid by those who ultimately win freedom emphasizes the necessity of struggle in the pursuit of justice. While acknowledging the devastating costs of such struggles, it is essential to frame resistance as a legitimate and often necessary response to oppression. The ethical implications of civilian sacrifices and the framing of resistance must be critically examined, particularly in the context of the narratives propagated by imperial powers. Ultimately, the pursuit of freedom is a fundamental human right, and the sacrifices made in that pursuit, while tragic, are often seen as a testament to the resilience and determination of those who refuse to accept oppression.

Patriot Day, observed on September 11, is profoundly significant in our nation's history. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, when our country faced one of its darkest moments. It's a day to honor the memory of the lives lost and the heroism displayed, but it also signifies the enduring spirit of unity and resilience that defines America. On this Patriot Day, we remember the first responders, the courageous individuals who put their lives on the line to save others, and the countless acts of kindness and solidarity that emerged from the ashes of tragedy. We are pleased to host this annual event and excited to be adding a reading of the Freedom Petition co-authored by Prince Whipple. The inclusion of Prince Whipple and the Freedom Petition is very much in keeping with the theme of independence; and invites us to recognize that our journey as a nation is long, and full of triumphs and short-comings, enlightenment and contradiction. This is certainly an interesting concept. We can probably all agree that “spin” employed by politicians and their public affairs people has gotten out of hand. But as a legal matter defining the line between spin and lying may be very difficult to establish and even harder to prove beyond a reasonable doubt as the criminal law requires.

𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬 National Flag Day, observed on June 14th every year, is a celebration of the American flag and a time to reflect on its storied history and the values it represents. From the earliest days of independence to the present modern era, the American flag has stood as a symbol of freedom, bravery, and unity. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed an act establishing an official flag for the new nation. The resolution stated: “Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” The stars on the American flag today represent the 50 states of the Union, a stark evolution from the original circle of 13 stars that symbolized the unity of the colonies. The stripes retain their original count at 13, continuing to represent those first colonies. The colors of the flag also carry their own meaning: red stands for valor and bravery; blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice; and white for purity and innocence. Together, these elements weave a visual story of a country's ongoing quest for liberty and justice for all.
