Many sales professionals don't reach their potential. This is not due to a lack of ability but a lack of flexibility. Over the last few months I have spoken to Sales professionals who are looking to progress their careers who want remuneration that is market rate for that position but without having the current skills to perform the role without support. Here is a common example: A Sales Engineer is on $130'000 Base but they want to grow their career and become a sales manager. The sales engineer sees an advert for a sales manager and applies. The advertised salary is $150k - $170k base. They don't have any Sales Management experience but they have a sales process that is transferable and scalable and they have been mentoring other members of the team. They then go and say they need the $170'000 to make the move and then the opportunity doesn't move forward. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot. 'But they advertised that they could pay that and I think i'm worth it' are normally the cries. My advice is to treat that step-up or advancement as a privilege. By being realistic on salary and putting the opportunity front and centre of your priorities you will get the salary level you feel you deserve. But the focus needs to be on having the opportunity to obtain the skills. Many employers want to recruit candidates that are looking to move up in their careers. Make it easier for them to hire you. The career journey is a long one and there will be times when you learn and times when you earn. Pushing for every single $ is going to get in the way of so many opportunities where you can grow. #sales #careerprogression

Why do you want to work in sales? I believe there are many reasons a person would want to have a career in sales, here are my personal top 3! Growth potential 📈 Sales is one of the few industries that constantly allow you to grow. If you’re smashing targets, there is no set time frame of how quickly this can happen for you! ⏰ We represent many entry level sales roles, that will require you to transition in to senior positions also, opening up opportunities to become mentors yourself for the people to come! Earning potential 💰 I believe being in control of your own success, creates a healthy drive from within. If you know your hard work will change the outcome at the end of the month, that’s a pretty strong reason to work hard every day! Most of our opportunities follow a uncapped structure… your earning potential can be exactly what you want it be. Networking/Development 🛜 Going in at entry level doesn’t mean that you have no idea what to do, it means you have so much to learn. The skills you will pick up - the people you will meet, all play a massive part in your own development both inside & outside of work. A personal fave quote of mine “if you’re the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room”. A sales career is one of the most versatile careers to have! If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, drop me a message today! 📲 #sales #businesstobusiness #gradroles23 #gradroles24 #entrylevelsales #businessdevelopment #recruitment

For dinner last night, my colleague Lucille and I had the pleasure of being joined by HR-OD and Psych professionals who are esteemed opinion leaders in their fields. At one point, we got talking about my career progression. One of them said: "Sales is one of the hardest jobs and most disliked by people. It's so..parang dirty." I can't blame her for having that opinion, after all many of the sales professionals she encountered were, well, "dirty". To me that means, without regard for the customer's needs, they shove a product down the throat of a prospect and instead of building a relationship they are building repellant-ship. So I told them about how I got into sales. I told them, sales is one of the most fulfilling jobs. That took them back. I told them it is absolutely fulfilling when someone you meet discovers whether on their own or with you that they need help, they need to make a change, and you help get that change they want to achieve. I said, imagine all the promotions I helped get. The salary raises I helped get. The career fulfillment I helped get. The confidence in people I helped build. That was the first time they thought about sales that way. And honestly, I think I converted them to become sales people 😅

What should you consider before starting a sales job?🚀💼 Are you considering embarking on a career in sales? It's a dynamic field that offers ample opportunities for growth and success, but before you dive in, there are several important factors to consider. Here's a guide to help you navigate the decision-making process and set yourself up for success in the world of sales. Understand the Role: Sales isn't just about making deals and hitting targets; it's about building relationships, understanding customer needs, and providing solutions. Before committing to a sales job, take the time to understand the responsibilities involved and whether they align with your strengths and interests. Research the Industry: Different industries have different sales dynamics and challenges. Research the industry you're interested in to gain insights into market trends, competition, and potential growth opportunities. This knowledge will help you tailor your approach and set realistic expectations for success. Assess Your Skills: Successful sales professionals possess a combination of soft skills (such as communication, negotiation, and empathy) and hard skills (product knowledge, technical expertise). Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses against these criteria to determine if you have what it takes to excel in sales. Consider the Work Environment: Sales roles can vary widely in terms of work environment, from fast-paced startups to established corporations. Consider factors such as company culture, team dynamics, and work-life balance to ensure a good fit for your personality and lifestyle. Evaluate Compensation Structure: While sales can offer lucrative earning potential, compensation structures vary widely across companies and industries. Consider factors such as base salary, commission rates, bonuses, and incentives to assess the financial viability of a sales job. Seek Mentorship and Training: Sales is a profession that requires continuous learning and development. Look for companies that offer mentorship programs, training opportunities, and career advancement paths to support your growth and success in the long term. Trust Your Gut: Ultimately, the decision to pursue a sales job should align with your personal and professional goals. Trust your instincts and make sure you're comfortable with the opportunity before committing to it. #sales #salesdevelopment #salesadvice #salescareers #salescareer
