🔎Please read and share the manifesto🔍 As someone with a lived experienced of the many forms of #domesticabuse, including #coercivecontrol, also being stalked and attacked on the streets of London, and the lack of support from the judicial system to protect and keep me safe, we need a change in the way #politicians and the judiciary responsed to #vawg. Advance was there to help me find alternative ways to feel a sense of safety, and direction when the systems supposed to do the same failed me on many occasions. Men of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire - we need your help... Juno Women's Aid is currently fighting what the National Police Chiefs' Council describes as an "epidemic of offending", with a recent report showing a 37% increase in violent crimes against women and girls since 2018. In total, the charity has supported nearly 3,000 women and more than 500 children in the last year - up six and nine per cent respectively on the previous 12 months. Tasarla L., Yasmin Rehman and the team do an incredible job but they need more support, which is where #Notts500 comes in. The idea behind #Notts500 is two-fold. On a fundamental level, it's asking men for a £2 per month donation to the charity to help fund its vital work supporting survivors of domestic violence and abuse. But beyond that, it's about starting the conversation. It's about enabling change and making sure we raise the next generation in the right way. As men, we have a responsibility to hold each other to account and tackle the spiral of domestic violence – we want #Notts500 to be a conversation starter that leads to real change in terms of attitudes, outlooks and awareness. In Australia, at least one woman a week loses her life to violence from a current or former partner. According to Destroy the Joint, this equated to the killing of at least 57 women in 2022 and at least 64 women in 2023 – statistics that paint a devastating picture, and one that sadly continues on in 2024. This violence disproportionately affects women, with intimate partner homicides involving a female victim and a male perpetrator being the most common type of femicide*. While most men do not use violence against women and children and believe it to be unacceptable, many stand by and do little to prevent it, allowing it to continue. This is why Polished Man encourages men to step up, speak out and take a stand. As carers, leaders and protectors, men have a positive and vital role to play in helping to stop violence against women and children. We want men to say enough is enough and take action to create a safer world for all women and children. We are called Polished ‘Man’, but we want to empower everyone to become part of the solution.
