"An update to the Ontario Building Code that just came into effect with the dawn of 2025 should mean quieter, more eco-friendly and, perhaps more importantly, faster construction of new homes across the province in the years to come." "As of January 1, developers can now design encapsulated mass timber developments of up to 18 storeys, which the Province says will "help the sector build more homes faster, keep the cost of construction down and boost our northern economy," among other benefits." #lowcarbon #construction #efficiency Link: https://lnkd.in/gaVUS9nM

Modular housing is a growing sector in the UK, driven by the need for faster, more efficient, and sustainable construction methods. Here are some key points about the size and scope of modular housing in the UK: The modular housing market in the UK has been expanding rapidly. As of 2023, the market was estimated to be worth over £2 billion, with significant annual growth expected as the demand for affordable and sustainable housing solutions increases. The government and private developers are both investing heavily in modular construction to meet housing targets. Indeed, large construction companies and developers are increasingly incorporating modular methods into their projects. The UK government has been supportive of modular housing as part of its broader housing strategy. There are initiatives and funding programs aimed at boosting the production of modular homes, with a focus on delivering affordable housing quickly and efficiently. The government's target is to build 300,000 new homes per year, and modular construction is seen as a key method to achieve this goal. Modular housing is seen as a more sustainable option compared to traditional construction methods. It typically results in less waste, lower carbon emissions, and more efficient use of materials. This aligns with the UK’s broader environmental goals, including achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. At London Prefab we offer a unique solution of bespoke flat panels. Our panels benefit from a unique connecting system which makes the panels easier to move and fit and provides a flexible, space optimised and high quality solution. We are proud to be part of the modular construction revolution! Contact us to discover how we help revolutionise your project. #londonprefab #modularbuild #constructionwork #buildoffsite

Multi-residential housing in Australia is evolving fast due to social and economic pressures. The sector is also benefiting from the vision of forward-thinking architects, designers and developers and their aspirations to deliver modern, sustainable, design-led dwellings. Australia’s multi-residential sector has 10,026 active construction projects totalling over 276 billion AUD. Many are in the design pipeline with only 1,375 at the construction stage with a main contractor on site. Statistics over the last five years show the average time between design approval and construction start is approximately 20 months. There is that saying “they aren’t making any more land”. They also aren’t making any more time…we are committed to making the most of both. 100% #construction #urbandesign #landdevelopment

Australia's National Construction Code is set for significant change in 2025. The NCC 2025 Public Comment Draft will be released on May 1 and will propose significant building code changes in six areas. A summary of the changes can be seen in the article below, which is based on an interview which I conducted with Australian Building Codes Board CEO Gary Rake last week. The changes will be less disruptive compared with those in NCC 2022 but will deliver important improvements that will have a substantial and positive impact on new building construction. #construction #australia #buildings #property #nationalconstructioncode #architecture #engineering David Chandler OAM Stephen Kip Kristin Brookfield Bronwyn Weir Prof (Adj) Kim Lovegrove FRSN, MSE, RML. https://lnkd.in/gFFXen3r

Experts are warning about slowdowns over the next year in the pace of growth in construction spending in the U.S., stalled by cracks in the commercial real estate sector. I don't see it that way based on our clients. However, I can see how higher-for-longer interest rates may act as a drag on overall #construction, impacting overall near-term demand. #commercial #realestate #buildings #building BOMA Canada Ken Simonson Associated General Contractors of America Kermit Baker The American Institute of Architects (AIA) American Institute of Steel Construction The Royal Architectural Institute Of Canada | L'Institut royal d'architecture du Canada Engineers Canada Michael Guckes Canadian Construction Association - Association canadienne de la construction ICBA | Independent Contractors and Businesses Association Council of Ontario Construction Associations British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA)

Building Your Dream Home: Where to Start After Buying a Vacant Stand So, you've bought a plot—exciting! But now what? Many people aren’t sure where to start when it comes to turning an empty stand into a dream home. Here’s a simple breakdown of the key steps: Step 1: Understand Zoning & Building Regulations Before making plans, check the stand’s zoning and building restrictions with the local municipality to ensure your dream home aligns with legal requirements. Step 2: Appoint an Architectural Professional An architect or architectural technologist will design your home according to your needs, budget, and regulations. They will also assist in getting municipal approvals. Step 3: Get Your Plans Approved Before any construction begins, your building plans must be submitted and approved by the municipality. This ensures compliance with safety and structural regulations. Step 4: Find the Right Contractor Choosing a reputable construction company is crucial. Look for experience, NHBRC registration, and references to ensure quality workmanship. Step 5: Plan Your Budget Building costs go beyond materials and labor—don’t forget professional fees, municipal connection costs (water & electricity), and contingency funds for unexpected expenses. Your builder and/or architect can assist with the costs involved. Step 6: Construction Begins! Are you a small developer or investor? 🏗️ Would you agree that the toughest part of the development process is securing land to build on? Here’s some insight—when a site is owned by a public body or local authority, small developers are often encouraged to bid and present plans. Plus, some smaller sites are simply too much hassle for larger developers, making them ideal opportunities for smaller projects—perfect for redevelopment and breathing new life into a community! At MarbleAir, our approach to small developments focuses on finding innovative solutions and creating designs that respect the constraints of each site and area. While the government works out the details of its planning reforms, MarbleAir Architects is here to guide landowners and small developers who feel daunted by the process—even before the foundation is laid 🧱 Whether you’re developing land or looking to sell, we’re here to make the process clearer, smoother, and a little less painful!
