Honour and support our Fridays For Future - Uganda activists who are striking and making other efforts for protecting Lake Victoria and to Stop EACOP. Lake Victoria, one of the most importanrt lakes in the world, is curently suffering from pollution, extinction of native species, invasive fishes and plants. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is one of the biggest threats in Africa. Currently Africa is not contributing so much to climate change, but EACOP can change it. https://lnkd.in/dV28KSsB For support them, firstly, Like/Comment/Share. Another way is to join with your own strike, make it here, please: https://lnkd.in/gjfU-wk #IamLakeVictoria #FridaysForFuture #StopEACOP

During the climaxing of 2022, reports showed that 70% of the world’s hungriest regions were located in Africa. Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia were the victims here. The horn of Africa experienced the crisis because of a long term drought – the worst the regions have had over 40 years. Meanwhile, among the whole continent, hunger has stemmed from high reliance on agriculture and pastoralism, climate change, depletion of natural resources, the de-colonizing process as well as conflict and political instability. We believe these can be solved by providing strategic ideas and planning. In the long run, we can improve farms in the affected regions, improve water and sanitation and also tackle conflicts, and curb greenhouse gas emissions and commit to climate justice. #hunger #africa #climatechange #greenhouse

Wildfires are raging across South Africa, fueled by a deadly mix of climate change and human negligence. 🔥 Climate change is turning once-manageable brush fires into catastrophic infernos. Scorching temperatures, relentless winds, and tinder-dry landscapes are creating a perfect storm for disaster. Meanwhile, careless actions like discarded cigarettes and poorly managed land are adding fuel to the fire. 🤦 To combat this growing threat, South Africa needs to strengthen its wildfire laws, hold negligent landowners accountable, and invest in prevention and response efforts. The lives and livelihoods of countless people depend on it. ⚖️👩🏻⚖️ Follow for more equity news: https://buff.ly/46pB9wA #climatechange #environment #sustainability #justice #action #localizedclimateaction #energytransition

This movie "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" powerfully mirrors the ongoing drought crisis in Southern Africa, showcasing resilience in the face of climate adversity. Through the ingenuity of young William Kamkwamba, the film highlights the urgent need for sustainable solutions to combat severe water scarcity impacting millions today. The main theme being the impact of drought when the story unfolds against the backdrop of a severe drought in Malawi, which leads to crop failures, famine, and desperation within the community. The film vividly portrays the harsh realities of climate change and its devastating effects on rural communities. A reality most countries in Southern Africa are living today- with the urgent need for immediate emergency support and longer-term initiatives to achieve #zerohunger.

RCRA's vision is to create an informed and healthier society. The mission is to empower communities through initiatives that enhance livelihoods, healthcare, and education in line with the demands of the 21st century.
In building climate resilience families and helping women smallholder farmers who are affected most by climate changes with heat dying their vegetable gardens, we have delivered over 400 water harvesting tanks to gardeners in Busongora north county in Kasese, Uganda. So they store water for watering vegetables during drought. We can’t address climate issues with putting women at front. On this Earth Day, the world is feeling the effects of climate change more than ever before. Zimbabwe is the third country in southern Africa to declare a national disaster due to El Niño droughts. Low rainfall is having a catastrophic impact on farm production and its forecast 2.7 million people won’t have enough food to eat. Our work in Zimbabwe with Christian Care Zimbabwe is crucial in helping farmers, like Munei, to develop climate resistant crops to survive the drought, so they can provide for their families in the long term. In Malawi, recurrent #cyclone devastation casts a spotlight on the climate crisis 🌀 It’s the reason why 37 responders from 25 organizations—including mobile operators and government—gathered last week to take part in an ETC-designed and delivered emergency telecommunications #simulation exercise to test country preparedness in the face of a cyclone. Malawi is a step closer to disaster #readiness.

With this year's World Water Day theme being Leveraging Water for Peace, I'd like to call your attention to an important piece written by my RTI International colleagues on locally-led solutions to improve water security and reduce conflict in pastoral communities across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia. Two important points stood out for me in this blog: 1) "A water-centered development approach can help transform conflict." RTI International's local partner RACIDA are using water as an entry point for facilitating dialogue, relationships building, and development among pastoralist communities in Kenya and Ethiopia. 2) "Tailored interventions that consider the unique dynamics and trigger points in regions like this are essential." Within these fragile settings, the combination of water scarcity, drought, mobility, and conflict, among other risk factors can have significant impacts on local communities. It is important to account for these factors as we work in partnership with the local communities to design and implement sustainable and resilient solutions.
🌍💧 Today marks World Water Day! Mohamed Abdinoor and Petros Aklil collaborated with the RACIDA team to highlight locally led solutions that improve water management and reduce conflict in pastoral communities across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia. In the face of climate change and resource scarcity, water has the potential to foster cooperation and harmony in fragile areas. By investing in climate-proof, evidence-based solutions that lay the foundation for peace and by following the lead of local partners, we can harness the transformative power of water for peace. #Africa suffers disproportionately from climate change 💦 ☔ 👪 Africa is the least able to cope with the negative impacts of #climatechange from prolonged #droughts, #floods, #Heatwaves, heavy rains, and tropical cyclones. These devastate communities and economies, with increasing numbers of people at risk. #leavenoonebehind We are thankful for the generous support from The Helmsley Charitable Trust #DIWASA and CGIAR initiative on #climateresilience to the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) produced Africa's first disaggregated data for 52 countries at the sub-national level covering 4,267 Since the 1950s. The knowledge map will help donors and member states call for more investment and support for African programs that accelerate adaptation and address loss and damage caused by our climate crisis.
