This is a big step forward! Did you know that the co-mingling of materials in blue box /curbside recycling results in 11% to 33%* of recyclables getting contaminated and ending up in landfill? Sometimes all it takes is a single greasy pizza box..... *estimates vary by state/processor #olyns #recycle #The Recycling Partnership CalRecycle #recycleplasticbottles #sustainability #circulareconomy

It's Compost Awareness Week! In 2023, DEN collected 265 tons of food waste to be turned into compost. That equates to 173 metric tons of C02e avoided! And that's not all - some of the finished compost is then used to reseed our newly constructed community solar gardens! This is just one of the many steps DEN is taking to become one of the greenest airports in the world. Learn more about DEN's planet-positive actions at https://lnkd.in/gUYUUbjb

Congrats to The Recycling Partnership and the City of #jacksonville for reducing contamination in their curbside #recycling bins by 22%! This is a big achievement- let's hope other cities follow suit. Did you know that contamination in single stream recycling results in 11% -33% of deposited material ending up in landfill or incinerators? It's a big problem. One advantage to recycling at Olyns is that contamination is simply not an issue for us. Why? Because our recycling Cubes are smart! We use AI to reject non-recyclable containers before they get into our bins. We also use AI to sort containers into separate bins by material type. The result? Industry leading material recovery rates. #olyns #recycling #curbsiderecycling #bluebin #recycleplastic #circulareconomy #sustainability #recycleplasticbottles #singlestreamrecycling #RVM #ReverseVendingMachine #jacksonville
“Jacksonville's significant reduction in recycling contamination by nearly 22% showcases its dedication to improving recycling efforts. Through an extensive public education campaign, the city has decreased improper materials in recycling bins, saving up to $80,000 annually and conserving landfill space and energy. This initiative, funded by the city and a grant from The Recycling Partnership, serves as a model for other cities. We applaud Jacksonville for its progress and encourage continued investment in recycling education and infrastructure.” - Cody Marshall, The Recycling Partnership Chief System Optimization Officer Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gMA9ep_M #TheRecyclingPartnership

How to get increased #recycling rates for CPGs and end users, see below: "Until today, communicating the recyclability of packaging has been informed by a national-scale study conducted every five years. The Partnership’s Acceptance Data will be published twice-annually and will serve as a key data point informing GreenBlue’s How2Recycle® labeling system." GreenBlue Org #food #beverage #packaging
Today, through a joint initiative with GreenBlue Org, The Recycling Partnership released its U.S. Community Recycling Program Acceptance Data for the very first time. If we want communities to be genuinely empowered 💪 to progress a more ♻ circular, low carbon economy, it is really important that waste management services are demystified and understood by local people. Last night I hosted a talk on behalf of Dunoon Community Development Trust as part of our Second Hand September programme. Nick Grove-White from Renewi, the company managing the local amenities site and delivering waste and recycling services on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council, provided a presentation. Fascinating insights into the levels of recycling being achieved, where materials go, how waste is handled and where the policy regarding reuse could take us. Some really clear opportunities to increase reuse and recycling rates whilst building wealth in communities. However, as we sat in a room, drinking water from hard-to-recycle cups (the only ones offered by liveArgyll 🙄), discussing local challenges - it became clear there is a real need for greater leadership within Argyll and the town to create the cultural shift needed to achieve a circular Dunoon. Community based organisations can only do so much. Hopefully, we can keep the conversations going and figure this stuff out sooner, rather then later. #LocalPlacePlan #SecondHandSeptember #CommunityEngagement
