April is a big month for focusing on health and safety around the globe. Sunday 7th of April marks 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 – championing the rights of all people to good health, including decent working and environmental conditions. Later in the month is 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤.
As employers, protecting our people's health and safety is fundamental to good business and this relates to both physical and psychosocial safety.
Investing time and resources into creating physically and psychosocially safe workplaces has a huge return on investment including:
▪ Improved health and wellbeing
▪ Greater productivity
▪ Higher performance
▪ Increased job satisfaction
▪ Greater work participation and increased social inclusion
▪ Increased individual, team and organisational resilience
▪ Lower absenteeism rates
▪ Less workplace injury and workers’ compensation claims
▪ Faster return to work
▪ Lower workers’ compensation premiums.
On the contrary, when business leaders and organisations drop the ball, there can be devastating aftereffects. Of course it starts with the injury, illness or in the very worst cases, a fatality. But the ripple effects are far-reaching:
▪ Trauma for those directly involved and adjacent to the incident.
▪ Long or short term time off work.
▪ Stop and slow down periods for operations.
▪ Time-intensive investigations.
▪ Workplace compensation claims.
▪ Reputational harm and damage.
▪ Criminal liability for company officers or directors.
It’s not just the personal story of an individual. It’s the story of your team, your organisation and your leaders. And each of those stories is worth protecting.
Forwood Safety began with the story of our founder, Steve, and his own life changing injury. And stories just like his are what drives us every day to achieve Mission Zero through our solutions.
Having a clear ‘why’ when it comes to health and safety is one of the most powerful drivers to create change for good.
So 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬?

I have been reflecting on health and longevity lately, realizing the importance of taking care of ourselves as we age. As the CEO of New Castle Lawn and Landscape, I prioritized the well-being of our team and clients.
Two years ago, we initiated discussions with our team to identify and eliminate any harmful chemicals from our operations, focusing on creating a safer environment. We have since progressed by discontinuing practices that have any chance of compromising safety. Weekly safety meetings are now a standard, aimed at protecting our employees and enhancing their quality of life.
Our commitment extends beyond profit; we prioritize the well-being of our team above all else. While it may incur additional costs, we prioritize safety over financial gain. As the CEO, it is my responsibility to ensure a hazard-free workplace and a sustainable future for all.
Have you reviewed your practices lately? Consider what actions today may impact the health and safety of your team in the long run. Reflect on the legacy you wish to leave behind. #SafetyFirst#EmployeeWellness#CEOResponsibility
Last week at FrankieOne, we organised a 'Bring Your Dog to Work' initiative in honour of #Mental#Health#Awareness Month in May 🐶 Our team embraced the opportunity to take their dogs for a walk or simply enjoy a quick cuddle. This initiative not only promoted a positive environment but also supported our commitment to high performance and employee well-being.
Studies have shown that pet-friendly workplaces lead to increased productivity, reduced stress, and enhanced employee satisfaction. For instance, 91% of employees in pet-friendly workplaces feel highly engaged with their work compared to 65% in non-pet-friendly environments (HABRI). Additionally, having pets around can improve teamwork, trust, and collaboration among team members (American Heart Association).
It was an incredible success, and we can’t wait to fill more in-office days with the joy and productivity boost our Frankie-pets bring 🌟
