It must be admitted that the deli pact was not an end in itself. It was intended that such conditions would be created, as they might effectively help resolve so many disputes and conflicts existing between India and Pakistan. But during this period of six months after the agreement, no dispute or conflict has really been resolved. On the contrary, communal propaganda and anti-India propaganda by Pakistan, both at home and abroad, are continuing in full swing. The observance of Kashmir Day by the Muslim League all over Pakistan is an eloquent proof of communal anti-India propaganda by Pakistan. The recent speech of the Governor of Punjab (Pak) saying that Pakistan needed a strong army for the security of Indian Muslims has betrayed the real attitude of Pakistan towards India. Punjab acted as a nursery for the imperialist forces. With Mussolini’s support, a group of Punjabi resistance leaders started a radio service from Rome to influence the manpower from Punjab. This radio broadcast was named “Radio Himalaya.” Dr. Iqbal Shedai, along with his colleagues Sardar Ajit Singh and Labh Singh, broadcasted Radio Himalaya. Ajit Singh and Labh Singh used to broadcast regular Hindi and Urdu programs. Italians allowed Dr. Shedai and his colleagues to oppose Congress because Congress was freely considered pro-British. As the radio gained public acclaim, the British government became aware of the service. They started missions to unearth them. Here, Dr. Shedai and his colleagues succeeded in pretending that the service was being broadcast from the cold caves of some northern region. The British began searching northern areas; several campaigns were launched in the northern regions and Himalayan snowfields. The service continued with short intervals from 1936 to 1941. The British eventually concluded that it was part of a larger Nazi propaganda network. They often used to pray for Hitler’s long life, scheming like “Pension for everyone aged 50 and above”. It was considered close to the Muslim League. His popularity among the tribes of the Frontier Province, now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, created many problems for British intelligence. After Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Radio became mainstream, Radio Himalaya remained closed for some time.
