🔥 Igniting Change: Uniting Missouri and Arkansas for Impact! 🔥 From the heart of Missouri to the vibrant communities of Arkansas, we're embarking on a journey to ignite change and build a brighter future together! Just yesterday, we unveiled our latest marketing efforts for the upcoming YAW events in both Missouri and Arkansas, and the response has been phenomenal. As a Hispanic woman business owner and one of the 100 entrepreneurs making waves, I am profoundly moved by the support pouring in. In Missouri, the excitement is palpable as we rally behind our cause, with guest speakers ready to lend their voices and efforts underway to secure the perfect venue. Change is happening because we believe in the power of collaboration and the dream of empowerment. Meanwhile, in Arkansas, anticipation grows as we work to connect with all those who share our vision. Although we haven't reached everyone yet, we are confident that together, we can create a brighter future. With guest speakers on standby and efforts underway to secure the ideal venue, the momentum is building. Let's bridge the gap between Missouri and Arkansas, harnessing the spirit of collaboration to ignite change that will reverberate throughout both states. Together, we're building a force for impact that cannot be ignored. Change starts with a dream, and together, we're making it happen in Missouri and Arkansas. It also includes lunch and a panel with some inspiring young business owners: Christian Dadulak, Kyle Duffy, and Brittany Barlog, come on down! Our learning objectives are: 1. Identify skillsets that can generate income. 2. Determine your target market, pricing, and levels of supply and demand. 3. Compare and contrast five revenue streams and select one for yourself. 4. "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." - President Barack Obama
Advice on Engaging an NFP Board from a Thought Leader (Andy Grove) —————————————————— I shared in a prior post Byron Wien’s sage advice on learning to say no as a way to protect your time. I would like to share another piece of luminary advice that has stuck with me - wise words from Andy Grove. When I was CEO of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, we were fortunate to have an incredible board of diverse talent and perspectives. One of those was Andy Grove, founder and former CEO of Intel. Andy was deeply involved and we spoke regularly. It is not an exaggeration to say that I felt he was a genius, and I was deeply influenced by proximity to his thought leadership. At one point, I was preparing an important presentation to the Board about our strategic plan. My deck included accolades of all that had been accomplished by the organization before I arrived. Andy reviewed my remarks before hand and shared his advice: “Don’t sing our praises. Don’t tell the Board what we have done - we know, we were there. Rather, tell us where we are going, what challenges we face, what solutions you propose, or if there are no solutions yet (e.g., no PD drug that crosses the blood/brain barrier), point out the unchartered waters we need to cross, and how the Board can help the organization get there.” This was a revolutionary mindset for a not for profit board, IMO. Too often NFP leadership simply regurgitates to a passive board all the wonderful things they have done, rather than taking advantage of the expertise and creativity in the room to problem solve and put the Board to work to help move the organization forward. And, in my experience, NFP Board members are volunteering their time precisely because they want to be pro-actively engaged and make an impact. At Rutgers, Andy Grove’s advice echoes in my mind as I seek to engage our alumni advisory board members, mentors, guest speakers, and other volunteers, to maximize their impact to the organization and provide them with a meaningful, rewarding volunteer experience.

📖 Have got so much from our partnership with Chapter One UK and my 7-year old reading buddy. Every week, whatever happens, the two of us connect for 30 mins to read a story online. Brilliant way for kids to get extra reading time, and its reminded me of a couple of things too: --- 🕐 The importance of stepping away to get perspective and fresh thinking. It's fair to say that some weeks as my reading slot approaches it can be hard to step away from the to do list. But it's always worth it, and the switch always makes me better when I return to the day job. --- 💎 If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it. Often, in the name of speed, politeness or an assumption that the cloudiness is ours, we accept a lack of clarity from each other in business. No such luxury with a 7 year old who wants to understand silent letters or magic 'e's and it's been good discipline to communicate on the terms of the listener. Educational for me too! Thanks to Sage for the Sage Foundation time, and this clever way of using it to knock down barriers for someone else learning a new skill. I'm going to miss it this Summer. 💚
We've held some wonderful end-of-year reading celebrations over the last few weeks! It has been amazing to hear about the special relationships that have developed between our volunteers and their readers over the course of the year, the progress they have seen and the very real appreciation teachers expressed for everything our volunteers have done to improve children's reading. Swipe through below to see some of the highlights - featuring our volunteers from Sage, White & Case LLP, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, Howden, Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Microsoft, Heidelberg Materials UK, Liberty Global, Macquarie Group, KPMG UK, ISG, Ocado Group, Mishcon de Reya LLP and Unum UK! Founder and Principal @ Freeman Consulting | Executive Leadership, Executive Consulting, and Nonprofit Fundraising Expert
One of the most informative projects I worked on at the Texas Association of Museums was the Finding Alternative Futures initiative. Funded by the Houston Endowment, this three-part project included self-paced learning online, one-on-one virtual coaching, and resource sharing and networking. Our modules covered the following topics: Online Programming: Virtual visitors are here to stay. Designing desirable online experiences and supporting them effectively through digital means is now a core program need. Operational Capacity and Continuity: Transitioning towards increasing digitally-enabled operations requires establishing new priorities and policies for business continuity. Community Engagement: Museums must use digital platforms to connect with and grow stronger in their community collaborations. Digital-Savvy Leadership: Managing today requires agile thinking, continuous and varied communication efforts, and other responsive actions. Understanding how digital tools and platforms support these key functions is critical. I've synthesized and portaged my learnings from this important project to benefit my new clients in the nonprofit world. Shout out to the team that made it possible: Deborah Howes, Koven Smith, Kate Livingston, MS, PCC, Kevin Diaz, Brian Crockett, Noël Harris, Ph.D., Katie Jackman, Brittany Petrilli, Emmy Laursen, Ed Rodley, and Ruth Ann Rugg. And Advisory Board: Dreanna Belden, Kippen de Alba Chu, Nik Honeysett, Hope Kandel, Dr. Kim McCray, Holly Witchey, Eric Lupfer, and Kathryn Mitchell. More at: https://lnkd.in/gnHBUpqP
