Article alert: ‘Identifying barriers and facilitators for the effective diagnosis and provision of primary health care for otitis media from the perspective of carers of Aboriginal children’ - Gloria Lau, Roz Walker and team 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/d5aaik76 This particular finding (echoed in other papers including from Letitia Campbell and team) about parents and caregivers feeling dismissed when they raise concerns about their child’s ear health - we examined the relationship between parent/caregiver concern and their child’s clinical results and I have to say (in the words of Letitia and Trumaine Rankmore, investigators on our project) parents and caregiver ‘know what they’re talking about’. Our data shows that, overall, parents’ and caregivers’ concerns (and non-concerns) align with their child’s clinical results. They have predictive value as part of the ear health and hearing check battery. Looking forward to sharing this story soon.

This Leader article, authored by two SLP staff members, describes how SLPs can navigate these roles while maximizing patient care and following the ASHA Code of Ethics. https://lnkd.in/eM8uysbX

Developing healthcare access paradigms that give advocates in rural and other underserved communities simple, cost effective strategies that help to overcome social, cultural, geographic and institutional barriers to care is what HeartSense is all about. We must not ignore the inextricable link between public health and long term treatment of CV disease, which begins with early diagnosis and navigation. First and foremost, we must be PRESENT in the community and empower existing community health infrastructure to touch their constituents.
