Almost three years into my Fintech journey with Saphyre and as a grateful Cohort 5 member of the IAEngine, I can say without equivocation that Investment Managers mostly aren’t good at Fintech. A few have a Fintech point of contact to help navigate to the right team (thank you!), far more common it takes huge effort to get to the right person or team. And when you do, the most common positive reaction is, “I wish that we had met sooner”. The delay isn’t great for either side. All we really want is a nominated contact to get in touch with. Then once you have the right team at the investment manager, there’s the dreaded information security assessment. Essentially a competition to ask pretty much the same questions as every other investment manager, but in a different order and with different words. There are some excellent RFP tools out there, but they are poorly used. The irony of logging technology questions in an excel workbook is not lost on us.
