Seasoned observers note that most social and political change takes years, yet when it occurs, it seemingly happens overnight.   The complex nature of gender inequality means that solutions generally demand high levels of collaboration and collective commitment over time, says Brianna Losoya-Evora, Head of Impact Measurement and Management at Sweef Capital. Progress can seem frustratingly slow. In Latin America there is a significant focus on vulnerable communities, including women, yet the region also offers significant untapped investment opportunities in women-led businesses, says Amplifica Capital Founder and CEO Anna Raptis. When it comes to gender equality, transformation can seem a pipe dream, with the World Economic Forum warning the overall gender gap will take 131 years to close at the current rate of progress. Gendered social norms are still deeply ingrained and perpetuate harmful behaviours and barriers to women and girls realising their full potential, says Brianna Losoya-Evora, Head of Impact Measurement and Management at Sweef Capital. On the ground the picture is more nuanced, with pioneering firms like Amplifica Capital identifying new investment opportunities in technology-based companies across Spanish-speaking Latin America that are founded by women or offer goods or services that improve women’s lives.
