Happy Juneteenth Freedom Day! Honoring Juneteenth is crucial because it commemorates the hard-won freedom of enslaved African Americans, reminding us of the ongoing fight for equality and justice that must be upheld for all. Diversity and inclusion are not just ideals; they are essential for advancing the rights and dignity of every individual, which lies at the heart of what Juneteenth represents. By embracing diversity, we learn from each other, grow in empathy, and ensure that everyone has a say in building a fairer and more inclusive society. Juneteenth resonates deeply with the Jewish community, drawing parallels to our own story of liberation from slavery and emphasizing the path from oppression to freedom. Our shared values such as Herut (Freedom), Tzedek (Justice), Yizkor (Remembrance), Kehillah (Community), and Tikvah (Hope) align closely with the themes celebrated on Juneteenth. Our history of fighting for justice, including marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement, underscores our commitment to equality and social justice. As we commemorate this day, I wanted to take the time to reflect that although we are different, we are also aligned in our commitment to creating a fair and inclusive society for all. #JuneteenthFreedom #JusticeForAll #JewishValues #UnityInJustice #EqualityNow #DiversityAndInclusion Natalie Loeb David B. Making new friends as an adult can be tough, but watching my kids do it so effortlessly reminds me of the connections we can all make if we open our hearts. Since moving to #Hull, we've been fortunate to meet incredible people through our kids' school and activities, local friends/family events, walking the dog and our gym. Outside of that one space that has become particularly special to me is The Black Heritage of Hull Collective. Led by local legends Stella Munthali and Chedu Oraka, this group provides a safe haven where people of colour can find mentorship and support when facing racial barriers. Recently, we gathered to discuss the impact of the recent race riots, which have deeply affected our community. Seriously, the chat felt like group therapy, and I made it a point to listen more than speak. As I reflect on what was shared, I’m struck by how vital it is for these insights to reach beyond our group. Real change in relation to these issues in our society starts with collective awareness, understanding, and empathy for those impacted by racism and religious discrimination. Remember, social change begins with people. The first resistance often comes from thinking it’s not needed. While few of us can change the world, all of us can make a difference in our close circles. So, check in on those around you — it’s more important now than ever 🖤 Please keep the comments honest, curious, and kind ⬇ #SocialChange #RacialJustice #ReligiousTolerance #EndRacism #HullTogether #BlackHeritage #StopDiscrimination #StandAgainstHate #BlackSherpaPodcast #ZarahSultana
