Yesterday, I was able to visit the Packaging Innovations event in Birmingham! As a degree apprentice at Kite Packaging, attending this event was an incredible opportunity to dive into the vast world of packaging and connect with industry professionals. One highlight of the day was the inspiring innovation talk by Ben Edmonds. His emphasis on the importance of younger voices in the packaging industry resonated deeply with me. It was eye-opening to realize that regardless of our role within our companies, we all possess the power to innovate and identify market opportunities. This was then reinforced by Peter Macqueen and Jo Stevenson as they discussed the pivotal role packaging plays in enhancing factors of production and subsequently boosting efficiency. Their assertion that packaging serves as a catalyst for improved productivity was really interesting to hear. One key takeaway from the discussion was the notion that investing in packaging education yields exponential returns. The degree course not only enriches us individuals but also empowers businesses to optimize their processes without incurring substantial costs. I had the privilege of making valuable connections that I know will greatly benefit my studies at Sheffield Hallam University. These connections will not only enhance my learning experience but also provide me with the tools and insights to make a tangible difference in the industry. Category manager at the monthly meeting: “After putting razors with 2, 3, 4, 5, and even 6 blades* on the market, what else can we do to innovate?” — After 2 minutes of intense radio silence, there’s a small voice from the back of the room. The intern: “Maybe it’s time to go back to basics: Just one blade? Bringing back the sustainable and recyclable solution where you have a metal razor and just switch out the blade when it’s blunt?” — Laughter. “And what do you want to make money with? Certainly not with a reusable metal razor with only one blade?” — Product manager: “Well, what if we make it electric and look fancy, and sell each blade for €27,99* and a membership for €6* per month?” — “Brilliant idea!” *no kidding, look it up

It's been three months of great work and collaboration. At the start of the semester in April, when I arrived in Germany at Justus Liebig University Giessen, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard that going on Erasmus is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so I convinced myself to make the most of it. And may I say, I did. I owe much of this incredible experience to Professor Alexander Haas. I stumbled upon his course, "Sales Strategy & Execution," and despite some initial hiccups, I managed to get in. It was the best decision I ever made. Throughout the course, we engaged in numerous enriching events: collaborations with Dastani Consulting , the American University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and several wonderful trips. I learned a lot and met great new friends, making me feel like I was in a movie. This feeling was amplified during a whole week dedicated to events with American students, including perfect pitch sessions, team selling competitions, field trips around Marburg, and an excursion through Ferrero. But this was only part of the journey. The other part emphasized our collaboration with Dastani Consulting, where we delved into the intricacies of the sales funnel. Through hands-on experience, we learned the best outreach methods, overcame our fears, and successfully met our quotas! It was a terrific experience, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Professor Hass for such a wonderful opportunity. I met incredible people, learned a great deal, and had intense fun.
