Last month, Craig and I unveiled Visor (https://www.visor.vin/), a new product that aims to upend how people shop for vehicles by showing the entire market at a glance, not just pages of listings. It's the culmination of a journey that began with Currents, where we noticed that users were particularly interested in tracking their vehicles.
I've got to admit, pivoting from Currents to Visor was nerve-wracking. We had invested so much in Currents, meticulously exploring every avenue to make it viable. Our time in the Techstars accelerator was invaluable in this process. But as we got more and more burned out, we also couldn't ignore the consistent interest in our existing vehicle-related features.
As a data enthusiast, I’m fascinated by how data-intensive a problem car buying can be. Visor leverages this by offering unique features like map-based listing views and interactive data visualizations. We're the only site providing such a geographical perspective on the market, allowing users to dynamically filter for exactly what they want (e.g., a hybrid Volvo XC60 under 30k miles with a blue exterior) and both see where those vehicles are located as well as what the market actually looks like.
While I'm still nervous (as any founder would be), the incredible response to Visor has more than validated our decision to pivot. More than 2,000 people have already tried Visor (including a stranger who saved $2,000 on a new car!), and we're just getting started.
Although we're building Visor primarily for in-market car buyers right now, I'd love feedback from my data people out there. Visit the site and let me know what you think about our approach to presenting vehicle market data. We know there's still much to build, but I'm stoked by the potential to level the playing field in car buying information. Let’s build!
