UK developer Balance Power has received planning approval for a 99 MW / 99 MWh battery storage project in Iron Acton, South Gloucestershire. Oliver Pettersen MIET, Connections Manager at Balance Power, commented: “Securing planning permission for Iron Acton is a significant milestone and is set to make a sizeable impact on local clean energy reliability. “With extensive solar development in the Iron Acton area, this project will be pivotal for managing excess power generation and more broadly for balancing out the supply and demand of renewable energy, helping to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. “Due to the size and scale of the project, it also marks a big step forward for the UK’s transition to net zero, which depends upon battery storage projects that provide stability for a decarbonised grid. We’re grateful for the support from South Gloucestershire and the community – it’s due to our collective efforts and close collaboration that we’ve reached this brilliant outcome.” The approval from South Gloucestershire Council was granted through a delegated decision after an extensive community consultation process. Once operational, the Iron Acton BESS project will be capable of powering approximately 26,700 homes per annum and will comprise 19 battery units over a 2.3-hectare site. In addition to Iron Acton, Balance Power currently has close to 2 GW of BESS projects in development in the UK. #cleanenergy

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has introduced new regulations mandating regional grid operators to conduct long-term transmission planning to better integrate renewable energy and enhance grid reliability. These operators have 12 months to comply. The reforms aim to boost transmission capacity and align with clean energy mandates, but have sparked debate over mandatory cost-sharing among states. Utilities One Power, Oil & Gas is closely monitoring these developments and will continue to provide updates on the evolving U.S. energy landscape. USA: NEW BILL BOOSTS MARINE ENERGY INVESTMENT The USA has introduced the Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act, a legislation that aims to invest $1 billion in advancing marine energy toward full-scale commercialization. The legislation will provide unprecedented funding to the Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office for demonstration projects, research and development, resource mapping, workforce development, and streamlining permitting processes. Eco Wave Power, a company set to install the first US onshore wave energy pilot station at the Port of Los Angeles, has welcomed the introduction of this act, stating that it demonstrates US leadership in climate initiatives and recognizes the vast potential of wave energy in meeting renewable energy targets. ⚡ Follow MPS (Modern Power Systems) for all the latest news daily from the global power generation industry ⚡ #MPS #renewables #marineenergy #waveenergy #tidalpower

Renewable energy executives stress the urgent need for streamlined permitting processes in the U.S., particularly for power transmission infrastructure and grid connectivity. Lengthy interconnection timelines and regulatory hurdles hinder progress, with states like Texas enjoying advantages over more restrictive regions like California. Faster permitting is crucial for meeting climate goals and fostering renewable investment. #RenewableEnergy #PermittingProcess #GridConnectivity #CleanEnergy #ClimateGoals

"The U.S. government needs to streamline permitting for renewable energy projects, including development of power transmission infrastructure and grid connectivity, to support needed growth, executives said on Thursday at a conference in Houston. "It's a tremendous issue," said NRG Energy interim CEO Larry Coben, pointing to difficulties around interconnection, the rules that new electricity generators must follow to connect to the grid. It can take up to four years to move a project through the interconnection process, according to the American Clean Power Association (ACP). Coben lamented that it is much harder to move through permitting processes in places like California than in Texas. States with fewer regulatory restrictions are going to be the big winners in attracting renewable investment and growth, said Andrés Gluski, CEO of utility firm The AES Corporation." #interconnection #cleanenergytransition #nxtgen Abby Hopper Sam Walsh Daniel Weeks Brett Porter Jason Cortes Gavin Mooney Alicia Lechner Byron Kominek NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions

Clean Energy Groups Request FERC to Reconsider Automatic Penalties in MISO Queue. • Several clean energy organizations have petitioned the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to reevaluate its approval of automatic penalties for withdrawing generation in the MISO interconnection queue, arguing that these penalties are unfair and discourage the development of new clean energy projects. • The organizations, including the American Clean Power Association, the American Council on Renewable Energy, and the Clean Grid Alliance, contend that the automatic penalties, which can reach up to $1 million per day, are too harsh and do not take into account the unique challenges faced by clean energy developers, such as the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. • They also argue that the penalties are inconsistent with FERC's goal of promoting competition and innovation in the energy sector, and that they could discourage investment in new clean energy projects, which are essential for achieving a clean energy future. https://lnkd.in/gPeR3pUx
