“Michael, I have a passion for document management.” Is anyone else sick of hearing the word passion used in resumes and cover letters? As a recruiter for 28+ years, I think I have read this word far more than my fair share of times. Sometimes it seems like everyone is driven by passion in their jobs, but in reality, I know this can’t be true. For instance, you might be good at document management. You might, in fact, have a real skill at it! And it might suit your personality to a T. But are you really passionate about it? Personally, I’d like to see this word replaced by more something more descriptive, personal and, dare I say it, true. For instance, let’s consider… I possess a deep devotion to copyediting. I have a calling for middle management. I am dutifully devoted to data entry. Or, if you’re really, truly excited about your job, consider: I have a zeal for shoe sales.

The subject line of your email needs to state your reason for writing. A job description may specify what you should include. If not, craft a clear subject line that states your reason for writing and your name. Why should they take you seriously? Calm down. 😅 Don't be too scared. Your CV must reflect your professional email address. For example: samueltolulopealimi@gmail.com. Instead of samking04687@gmail.com. This is how it works:The email address must include your full name. If your full name is already taken, you can include some numbers like samueltolulope2015@gmail.com. Does it really matter? Yes, it matters. As a professional writer, I have encountered clients who wanted to use unofficial email addresses for their applications. When I advise them on this matter, they make the necessary adjustments and create official ones. Do you need a professional CV? Send a DM.
