Florida’s beautiful springs, rivers, and lakes are all supported by our vital aquifer, which also provides drinking water, supports agriculture, and powers industry. At GRU, we are committed to conserving this essential resource. Through a federal grant secured in partnership with the Suwanee River Water Management District, we’ve optimized water usage between our Deerhaven (DH) and Deerhaven Renewable (DHR) plants. Since June 2024, DH has sent over 75 million gallons of treated water to DHR for use in its cooling towers. This innovative water-sharing system, made possible by the grant, reduces our groundwater withdrawal by 100,000-200,000 gallons per day. By working together and overcoming challenges GRU has made a significant impact on preserving our aquifer.

It is great to announce the issuance of 6,152 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for Swartz Carbon Projects. These projects are managed by the Warnock family, incorporating 11 individual soil carbon projects spanning over 2,109 hectares in the Fitzroy Basin region of Queensland. The first two projects (4 and 9) to show validated measured increases have generated a combined 6,152 ACCUs issued by the Clean Energy Regulator in partnership with AgriProve. The Warnock family have managed the Calliweera Farm property for over five generations with the first pieces of land acquired in 1879. The farming enterprise now totals nearly 4,000 hectares of land, with more than half the area under soil carbon projects, managed by Nathan and Mark Warnock. AgriProve is proud to partner with such innovative and committed landholders. Our love for Brantford keeps going and going! Inspired by Mayor Davis and his opening remarks at the CBN Networking event last week in Brantford, we want to shine light on a few fun facts from an amazing Brownfield project in Brantford. Thanks Albie Moffat, MBA, P. Eng. at Jacobs for your work and the fun facts! A 51 hectare site was previously home to a number of prominent manufacturing uses, including the production of agricultural implements and farming equipment for North America. Here’s a few sustainability metrics from this best-in-class remediation: ▪ 40,000 tonnes of concrete reused on-site. ▪ 120,000 m3 of clean soil segregated, tested and reused on-site. ▪ 39,000 m3 of screened fine-grained PHC impacted soil remediated on-site and reused on-site. ▪ 66,000 m3 of screened coarse-grained PHC impacted soil remediation on-site and reused on-site. ▪ 140,000 L of free-phase petroleum hydrocarbons skimmed and recycled off-site. ▪ 30,000,000 L of PHC impacted groundwater treated on-site. ▪ Avoided 5,000+ truck trips from these sustainability efforts! That’s a lot of good for the planet! Happy Earth Week (April 21 to 28). #BrownfieldsFirst #FunFactFriday

Really important FIRNS project, looking to unlock peatland restoration on crofting and common grazing land. They looked at, amongst other things, how crofters and common grazers can enter the private voluntary carbon market using the Peatland Code. The legal frameworks are complex and often there are many shareholders involved. This report sets out some clear recommendations on how to unlock private finance through the sales of carbon credits, but it also highlights the challenges. Forest Carbon, working alongside Finance Earth and ANGUS DAVIDSON, completed a FIRNS-funded project in March 2024 that explored how to unlock the restoration of peatlands on crofting and common grazing lands in Scotland. The work focused on developing two investment-ready pilot projects, exploring funding options and assessing governance models. Challenges included unclear carbon accounting guidelines and complex legal frameworks. The project made some recommendations to the Scottish Government including progressing the development of a Scotland Carbon Fund, providing clarity on future net zero obligations and ring-fencing grant funding to support the restoration of degraded peatland on crofting and common grazing land. Further stakeholder engagement is ongoing. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) must not be abused as a PR / Marketing stunt and should absolutely not be proposed in locations that put our nation's most valuable, natural water producing assets at risk. The Great Artesian Basin (GAB) supports 120 regional communities, agriculture, small business, a broad range of industries along with an incredible array of biodiversity. It is the envy of the world, and it is our responsibility to protect the GAB for future generations. CTSCo's CCS proposal would see liquified CO2 injected into a usable, water producing GAB aquifer resulting in contamination of the water and the mobilization of heavy metals including arsenic and lead into the aquifer. Great to see the widening buy-in on the world of agri-voltaics. Such great opportunities for farmers and their communities, not to mention more rural grids to localize some of their energy production Keep it up, Maryland! https://lnkd.in/eKeHxpDz

Focused on humanity first, we coined the term #AgIsTheNewOil because we believe the face of the renewable energy transition lies in the heart of the global agricultural economy. Latin America, North America, Central America, South America, Asia, and Africa hold the promise - their agricultural communities and multi-generational farmers will lead the charge to a sustainable future. SGP BioEnergy’s READY.GROW. program is preparing the tools and resources required to make that shift. #energytransition #greenfuture #farming #sustainability
