King But at that juncture in life, I was afraid of being devoid of this beautiful opportunity! 20 years back, during my school days, the financial circumstances at home were conducive & restricted for higher secondary education only. Yet, the curious me set sights on becoming an #engineer. Determined not to let anything stand in the way of my dreams, I started giving tuition classes to fund my engineering education. When the sparkling blue Air Force uniform beckoned, I answered the call and was privileged to join #IAF. The learnings that I gathered there following 14 years, cannot be framed in group of words! I earned the rank of Wing Commander blending the engineer into a fine #warrior! Throughout my career, I've continually invested in my education. My latest endeavor is a doctorate in #Generative AI. Honoured to have enrolled in the PHD program where #AI and its application in various domains specifically in #defence and #aerospace are my next frontiers, and I am determined to achieve these goals by carving my own path. To all the members of this esteemed platform: Investment in self #education is a powerful ripple effect in transforming the community to country to the entire world! This is the true form of #leadership and #empowerment! To all those out there who aspire to invest in learning : Be bold, be relentless, and don’t conform to conventional expectations. Your dreams are valid, your goals are achievable, and your stories are worth making history. I think most of us are familiar with president Kennedy’s speech at Rice University in 1962. The quote is usually trimmed to this: “We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” But 60 years later, who wants to do what’s hard? We’ve had a cultural shift: politicians want easy, fast-acting vote-winners. Investors want easy profits. People want easy (but still high paying) jobs. Students want easy courses. Not everyone is like this, but enough to make a difference. Let’s face it: aerospace and defence is hard. Electronic warfare is hard. Innovation is hard - by definition you’re doing something new, and that carries risk, and managing risk well is hard. So why bother? In today’s defence investment climate, the second half of Kennedy’s quote is something we’d all do well to remember: “We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.” What’s your moonshot? I am delighted to share that our team, Team 7: Folarin Olaobaju, Pedro Cupertino, Faisal MOHAMMAD and I, were recently selected as the #1st place winning team in the Innovation Works 2023 competition sponsored by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works®. I have got plenty of gratitude, much more than I can put into words right now as I write this post with trembling fingers. However, I must thank all the judges from the Lockheed Martin team, the Wichita State University Aerospace Faculty, Dr. Suresh Keshavanarayana and Brian Hershberger for the amazing opportunity of being heard by all of you! And it goes without saying, thanks a ton and congratulations to all in our #team for our hard work and determination! We did it! Moving onto the juice, this year's competition theme was focused on "Incorporating Artificial Intelligence to enhance collaborative combat in establishing air dominance". Team 7 proposed a solution that makes use of a Multi-layer Perceptron Artificial Neural Network to integrate Predictive Maintenance and the logistics of Supply Chain Management in a singular function, with the ability to forsee maintenance and supply chain bottlenecks. This was my second time attempting this competition, the 4th of its kind. Learning from past mistakes, we tried to view the problem at hand from a distinctive perspective, thinking about root causes! After all, a grounded airplane cannot get airborne, let alone dominate. My biggest takeaway from this is how to think systematically in order to come up with #practical solutions to #complex problems. Lastly, I would recommend such competitions to anyone who likes to sit down with a bunch of people, put deep thought and talk a problem out until its sorted. They are a great #teambuilding exercise and an outlet for your #leadership skills. I especially encourage Wichita State University students to experience the #thrill of the Lockheed Martin #Innovation Works competition! #aviation #aerospace #design

I did a little learning on the history of cybernetics. I learned of the three schools: 1. American 2. British 3. Soviet 1. Sees Intelligent control as making an a suitable choice between options. “Which product is best in the range available to me?” 2. Sees intelligent control as sustainable adaptation to the world as its is. “What do I do to maintain balance?” 3. Sees intelligent control as the creation of new options despite limitations and constraints. “What can we make possible with limited choice?” One can maybe see how this coloured the direction of technological development? One can also close LinkedIn and go outside for a walk even though it is raining.
