This event was powered by forward thinking organizations like Kinderpedia, Sodexo (now Pluxee Portugal), Generali Tranquilidade, 5P's - Formação Comportamental e Eventos de Teambuilding and #LACS. Nicolas and myself always dreamt of having a pole abroad for skeeled 🌍 Staying in Luxembourg only... not an option! Our initial thought was Barcelona 🇪🇸, where we studied together at EADA Business School. But hiring Portuguese engineers from the beginning, they told us about 3 amazing engineering universities in Porto 💡 🤔 We saw this as an opportunity and visited Porto 🇵🇹 That's when we discovered UPTEC - Science and Technology Park of University of Porto, a start-up station that offered offices and mentoring. We got a spot and it was exactly what we needed in terms of infrastructure and talent. The choice of having our R&D and engineering team in Porto helped us to develop the tool a lot faster and in greater quality than we could back home. Of course, opening a pole in Porto came with its difficulties: - Accounting - Different work culture - Paper work to open a local entity But it also taught us a lot: - A different work culture - New product features ideas - Managing people 1500km away Today, we still have the team in Porto and we couldn't be happier to be there with such great people 🔥 We are not in Uptec anymore as we have our own offices but what a stage to start it was. H2Excellence is coordinated by Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK University of Applied Sciences, in close cooperation with Technology Centre Merinova Oy and Vamia - Vocational Education. The project support also Greenovet, another important CovE in our region for the development of green competence at the heart of a major Nordic energy cluster, EnergyVaasa. Erasmus funding is of a huge importance to continuous learning and will also play a key role in the development of CoVEs in the new programming period. When asked about the challenges, the public raised the issue of ensuring continuity in terms of commitment and funding, the importance of international co operation and mobility. A long project that will be implemented over the next 36 months thanks to the collaboration of 7 partners from different European countries. The project aims to address the need for marketing professionals who possess the digital and sustainability skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly evolving job market. Witnessing Porto's Queima das Fitas: #CultureandCognition During my last vacation to Portugal, I was fortunate to witness the vibrant and historic tradition known as "Porto's Queima das Fitas". This celebration, translating to the "Burning of the Ribbons," is where students from various academic departments across Portugal gather to celebrate the end of their academic journey. A little history : Queima das Fitas started in the early 20th century at the University of Coimbra and has since spread to other universities, including Porto. Initially a modest ceremony, it has grown into a grand celebration symbolizing academic achievement and cultural connection. There are various departments with distinct color ribbon to group them. - Law: Red - Medicine: Yellow - Engineering: Dark Blue - Economics: Red and White - Pharmacy: Purple - Arts and Humanities: Blue - Science: Light Blue - Psychology: Orange - Dental Medicine: Golden Yellow - Sports Sciences: Green The activities include Parades , concerts, performances and finale of burning the ribbons for final year graduates. It was a delight to see the excitement of this celebration as the students transition from university world gearing up to next phase the professional world. At work, as we invite trainees as part of #Grow@TCS program, there is an exclusive segment of "Culture Day" which is about integrating Cultural Traditions and exchanging such moments with our trainees who join TCS. HR engagement such as #Culture days at #work is deeply rooted with various traditions such as Queima das Fitas and similar #celebrations across cultures. Witnessing Porto's Queima das Fitas was a cultural delight and an insightful experience into how traditions evolve and integrate into modern contexts. Organically, having a similar event to onboard our #trainees in #TCS Europe was a reassurance of the global and inclusive mindset the organization has. By embracing such traditions within the #professional ecosystem, we create a vibrant, #inclusive, and dynamic #workplace that honors both heritage and innovation.
